They should have to step down for a few years at least. If they truly repent, then I would let them back into the pulpit. If they raped or molested a child, or something else illegal, they should certainly go to prison, or maybe even be put to death. The Bible requires that clergy be devoted Christians, with high integrity (I Timothy 3).

I think when children are involved, they should not be allowed to function as a member of a clergy.
Now if they have an adulterous affair or violate their vows of celibacy, then the Church has to use judgement on each individual situation. Certainly they should not be allowed to function as a clergy in the area where the had been. The scandal would remain and he would be handicapped and it would do damage to the faith of the weak.

Although they also are human therefore are subject to temptation, it is my OPINION only that No, they should not remain the pulpit. Even though if they confess their sin and are forgiven by God, being in a position to teach others would be dangerous to say the least. Not because they would no longer be "better than the rest of us" because they never were better than the rest of us...but because other people (specifically non believers) will condemn not only them but their followers as well.

no ....they should have a time away from the pulpit....repent and receive counseling etc.....they need to be held accountable for a while before being released again to preach the Word.....they are held to a higher level of accountability then the layman....they are to be an example to all of Jesus....this should not be taken lightly

I think it should all be dealt with on a case by case basis. I do believe in second chances but after the 2nd time it happens, its really rather foolish to attempt to trust an individual at that point.

no, for sure no. They would need to sit out with the people and listen to someone else preach. Of course, if it was illegal, off to jail.
