You're young, just try it out and see how you feel about it. Don't let other people's opinions really dictate what you do, just make sure you are doing it because it is what you want to do.

Go for it! One of my closest guy friends, he has had dreadlocks for about 4 years now, and has just recently become a chef at an expensive (posh) restaurant. He is also doing a teachers degree at uni.
Nobody should judge you merely upon how you look. It's really how good you are at doing the job. Besides, having a bold hairstyle can make people think that you're more creative and extreme. If an employer can't accept the way you look, don't take the job. Changing your look will only make you displeased with yourself, and will probably affect the way you work in that workplace.

I'd say it depends on where you live and what kinds of people you'll want to be your clients. I think that most sane people would respect a good photographer (just show them your work) regardless of his/her hairstyle.
Not to mention you're probably only in high school now and then if you go to any higher education institution THEY aren't going to care so you could at least have dreads for several years!
I mean, it is hard to get the dreads & get them to stay but if they don't work it isn't easy to get rid of them!

It's completely your choice. There are many misconceptions when it comes to dreadlocks. If you change your mind, you don't have to shave your head to rid yourself of dreads, you only need to cut it down to an inch or two. They're not as permanent as one would think. In your situation if you wanted to be a photographer, I think that it would give you something to be known by. There aren't that many photographers that much more famous than they're photos. People would remember you more. I would say that it's up to you, but you don't have to regret it because you can always cut them off without shaving your head.

im a photographer, and I had dreads for a couple of years, you get mixed reactions, people either LOVE them, or HATE them, the key is keeping them looking nice, if you have really nappy looking ones, people might not like them as much, but it also depends on how you present yourself too, if you dress really nice with them, people know thats the look you are going for, where if you dress kinda plain or sloppy, people just assume your a scrub thats dirty. I doubt you would regret it though, I DONT, infact, i cut mine out only because of my other fulltime job as a security guard. I WISH I STILL HAD THEM. you will love them the same as you learn to love a dog or cat, its REALLY weird, but totally rad. locks of luck to ya. lol
p.s. you dont have to shave your head when you dont want them anymore, and often times you dont even have to cut your hair real short either, it just takes time to get them out, unless youve had them for a really long time.

very few people with dreadlocks have high paying jobs. Thgink of your career before you decide that your " individuality" is worth all the big bucks you'll be saying goodbye to.
