You are great to be so honest and caring about your friend!
Never assume anyone will be here tomorrow. What I mean is that each day you should treat everyone as though it is the last time you might see them.
Be company to your friend and accept his battle. Share with him what u want to and what he can do. I'm sure he knows less than you do about his illness, but if he knows more, he will tell you if he feels he can trust you.
Take one day at a time and encourage him.

What type of tumor is it? The prognosis varies greatly depending on the tumor cell type, location, stage, age and, general health.
If it's a lymphoma, some lymphomas have an excellent prognosis. However, if he has got worse despite treatment, it sounds like he doesn't have a lymphoma.

I know how it feels to be paralyzed for the rest of your life (trust me, I got in a car accident, wasn't pretty and now I can't move anything under my chest) and I know how hard it is to have cancer (I got A.L.L and brain cancer) best you can do is don't think the "what ifs" I've learn not to think that, ever. Be there for him and if he doesn't want help, don't. (Trust me I've had enough people asking me if I need help getting out of my truck or not...)
Just be there would be the best. If you or him needs someone to talk to, feel free to email me at paraboy89@aol.com I'm always looking for friends and helping people out.
Good luck.
