We are having sevear thunderstorms here in Iowa, and I love them. I like to sit and watch the activity in the sky. A little while ago I saw some lightning and it made me think about the soon return of Jesus for his bride. He will come like lightning flashes across the sky, it will be that fast and all true Christians will be gone. Nothing left but a pile of clothes, I cannot wait. Next time you see lightning think about it, are you ready for His soon coming return?

Yes, I am ready... thank you for asking! I LOVE thunderstorms! I always have loved them. Sometimes I think about Jesus' return with them.... I guess usually, though, I get really giddy... the wind kicks up, the sky lights up, then the thunder crashes... I turn off all the lights and open the curtains -especially if it's bedtime - and I just thoroughly enjoy the "show" until I fall asleep.

btw, We're having 'em here in San Antonio, TX, too... g'night! I'm off to watch the "show"!!!

I hope that Christ will come soon, but more than that, I hope to see more and more of God in little moments that happen in front of me. I hope to grow in the recognition that Jesus' coming doesn't have to be anticipated but can be experienced now. Every act of compassion I see or am part of, and every moment of peace (like your time with the thunderstorm) are moments when God moves and lives. I usually don't recognize them as divine, until much later. I want to get better at that.

What thunderstorms remind me of is the power of emptiness. Do you know what creates the thunderclap? As the searing hot plasma races through the sky as lightning, the heat created causes all the air molecules to expand apart from each other creating a huge column of nothing (or a vacuum) in the middle of the sky. Then the lightning disappears, and the column of nothing is there for an instant by itself. After that instant, the air rushes back together again and literally claps. Such a powerful sound to be born out of absolute emptiness. I like to think that the universe celebrates when we can create space within ourselves as well.

I can remember when I was a kid and got scared of the thunder my grandma told me that the "tater wagon" got turned over in heaven, and the lightning was God taking my picture. I love to watch thunderstorms - especially the clouds. They are especially pretty in the evening about sunset time when the sun is behind them and the sky is a deep dark blue. Makes the edge of the clouds glow with a bright white color. I am awed by the beauty that God created and cannot wait to see how much more beautiful heaven is.

When I was 3-5: God bowling

When I was 6-8: Scientifically ("The warm air and the cold air are clashing, causing it to rain Mom!" "Yes, dear.")

When I was 9-current age: A personal show in the sky, complete with "fireworks." (Lightning)

And all throughout this: I am always reminded of God's awesome power.

Well growing up we used to joke about God and his angels rearranging His furniture or He was weeping or watering the grass in Heaven. Sometimes we would joke that He was having the greatest party ever or that He was really really mad and stomping around. We didn't really have much to say about the lightening though we were all pretty awestruck with that. Now as an adult I think of thunderstorms as raw unbridled power. Something which man can never harness, control or even hope to replicate.

The awesome power of nature and how much I want to go out and play in it. I have never been scared of nature even when its violent.

A tornado passed about 150 yards from my home I was watching TV until the lights went off and two very large tree limbs came at the window I was sitting in front of.

I'm not a total fool when I saw that I did grab the cat and head for the basement. Then when it quieted down I went out side to check things out the houses 150 yards away were gone but there wasn't hardly a scratch on mine.

I love a good storm!

The awesome power and majesty of God.

When my seven children were little they would cry when thunderstorms came, so I would carry them in my arms out to the porch and tell them that the storms show the power of God and since God loves us there is nothing to be afraid of. My children have never feared a thunderstorm since, and they all know and love the Lord.

They make me think of being SAFE in His arms. That nothing in this world even the thunder isn't greater than Him. I love sitting and watching the lightening (no good lightening storms here in Calif....the good ones are all in the midwest) I never thought about it as Him coming that fast but you're right...and I will think about it the next time there is lightening here. Yes, I am ready for His coming. Our Blessed Hope.

That's really nice. But thunderstorms scare me senseless. I hide in closets and under beds. I've been knocked to the ground by a lightening strike and I just can't get past that helpless fear of laying in the dirt, feeling a horrible pain all over, and not being able to get up.
