u r an employee, u got 12000 dollars bonus that should be paid at December 2006, but due to unexpected maintenance cost with the company. you will get paid on 1/2007. So do u include the bonus in 2006 return or 2007?

Don't just include it when it if it show up on your W-2 companies screw up all the time investigate. Because if the mail is not post marked until after 2006 then you can claim it in 2007 and of course the corp is going to try to show it as early as possible because less taxes for them.

Since it was paid in 2007 it goes on your 2007 return next year.

You are supposed to file based on when the check for compensation was processed aka payroll date on the check. If the check is dated for 2007 you file for 2007.

It would be income in whichever year the check was dated, and should show on your W-2 for that year. You include it when it shows on the W-2.

Record it for the year it was received as income. if you dont have it on Dec. 31, 2006, you shouldnt have to pay the taxes on it. Plus that's lying to the IRS. They'll bend ya, over, dude....seriously...
