It's only 20 light years away, which is just down the street. Even though this may be another Earth, I am sure there are many more planets out there that isn't like Earth at all and have life. So if and when we do find our "place" is the Cosmic Roll Call, what would that do to religion?

It is logical to assume that these intelligent beings developed their own beliefs on the universe. And if they believe in a divine being, they may believe that it looks like them as well. What would that mean to someone on Earth who believes in god?

Sorry Kent, it's 20.5 light years away. Did you read the article?

But what if there are intelligent beings and they find a belief in god offensive?

Life on earth has been created by God. Possibly, God also has created life on other planets. God created life on earth, so he may have created life on other planets too. The Bible does not say something about this, so this remains possible. If there are intelligent beings on other planets, they would know God. Would they also have a fall to sin, like the humans? Would we meet them in heaven? Would there be atheists and religious extra-terrestials? We cannot know.

They are looking for life on Mars but not bipeds or quadrupeds - they found water- a necessity for carbon based life forms. They are looking for fossils or bacteria and things like that. So the nim-rod that spoke about scientists not being able to determine whether or not mars had life - doesn't know what he's talking about.

There are billions of planets- if 1% of those planets were in a similar location to its sun as the earth, and had a similar orbit and position, its very possible that the life on that planet would be very similar to ours- and just as messed up! And 1% of billions is a $hit load!

The thing that religious people don't understand is that they are light years away from us. Most of these planets would take over one of our life times to get to- and we just don't have that kind of technology yet. Since the age of their evolution would be similar to ours (if they're like us) its likely that they wouldn't have the technology either.

Well considering they can't figure out of Mars is habitable or has life at all and it's only 40 million miles away, I think that one is a BIG long shot!

How is it People can BELEIVE science on something 20 light years away and NOT even give God one scrap of credibility.

Wow

Science looks through a telescope and you get down and PRAY to them!

What a religion!

The same as how so many other religions declare they are right. It wouldn't affect me at all personally. God created the heavens and everything out there, I never claimed nor saw the bible say NOTHING was out there at all. It was created for His glory. I always wondered what God was going to do once our time was done on earth. Surely if we are to be witnesses, there is more to witness then just this, there's a reason He wants us with Him forever, I assume that's to watch more things.

It wouldn't mean much. You're making a lot of assumptions.

God created the Universe and everything in it.

I don't believe there is other life our there but I don't know for sure. The Bible does say that "in my Father's house there are many mansions" so who knows, that could be a reference to other planets...

If there is life out there, then why wouldn't God have revealed Himself to them as well?

Religion, this is not about religion, this is without religion in mind, what you are talking about here, but you will not get rid of religion by moving people will take religion with them wherever they go, anyway, they have NOTdirectly seen this planet, therefore, they say could, may, possibly, probably, estimated, may, could support life, appears tobe like our Earth, yet they really do not know, while that may be so, it also may not, what if there is no water there? What if the re is no suitable air there, for us to breathe, are they going to go all that way with limited suplies of both water and air, and, if they find, when, they get there, that, there is nothing to breathe or drink there, then, will they come back, to take all they need over there, how? It is not like down the street, you cannot, just jump, in your car, and go down the street, to it within minutes remember this is 20 1/2 light years away, we cannot travel at the speed of light. What do you think will make people change their ways over there? Do you think that all the problems that mankind has made for themselves, will just magically disappear, over at the other planet?who will go there? The rich who can afford to?and what is to become of the Earth, is it now to be viewed as just refuse? Are we going to destroy one planet after another, and then keep on searching for other planets that we can call home for another little while till we destroy the new planet?Do you not think it would be more productive to look after what we have, rather that acting like spoiled children with toys that are not good enough for us to play with any more, because, we have destroyed them? The Earth is not just a broken down toy, it is the place we live it was created for us to live on and supports our life perfectly just as it was intended to, other planets are there, yes, but does that really mean they are ours to destroy just like we destroy the Earth? We cannot agree on anything on this Earth what makes you think that if indeed we were able to move over to this planet without a hitch, that we could be peaceful and agreeable over there? How long would it take to move our populations over there, and build our empires there? Is that idea really fesible?Or is it just a dream to just keep on the track of constant destruction, and taking over other places without any regard for what we have, by the generosity of God?Or would it be more fesible to fix the problems we have created, and keep what we have in good order, by looking after it, rather than to just get rid of our greed instead, because, if you take your problems with you they get built in the new place and just keep on getting worse and worse, stop that chain that is the answer, not to drag your problems elsewhere. Problems will not magically disappear they need to be sorted.

If this planet was so, i ask...

What if they all had a copy of the Bible and believed in the Christian God? How could one explain that? Would you dismiss it as aliens that came here, told us and then went there?

Well if it's true.. and that's a big IF..
God created them too. And you're only guessing they think God created them in His image. They might be like animals, not as intelligent as humans anyway. They may be more intelligent. They may not exist period. Until we travel those lightyears, or they do, I guess we won't know.

actually, it's 1,226 light years away, or 120 trillion miles.

keep in mind thar Mars counts as an earth-like planet; there's no guarantee of life - or even of water -yet.

and even if there is life, that doesn't mean intelligent life.
