The bible says to pray without ceasing...Prayer is not always to get you out of a fix, but that you may get to know him. I could not go without it. If the only time you pray is when there is trouble, i would question where your heart is.

Every morning, on my way to work, I pray a Rosary; I´ve been used to it since my days as a little girl in a Catholic school.
I also go to church on Friday afternoons (I confess, it is harder for me to go on Sundays) and pray another Rosary and attend Mass.
When I am worried or in need of something, I tend to pray very often; whenever I remember my need, there I go again and pray and ask.
Nothing, NONE of the things I have asked for in my prayers (the recovery of my cocaine addicted brother, the healing of my father´s lung cancer, my job, finding a love) have been denied to me; all of them are now realities I enjoy and I also pray thanking the Lord for granting them to me.
There can be miracles if you believe
Ask and you shall receive

I pray daily - several times a day - I don't think it's necessarily wise to wait until your in a jam to pray. God might not be used to your voice! ;-)
Pray often with much thanksgiving. Pray for others more than yourself. Pray for yourself to learn discernment and to love others and for the boldness to tell others about what God has done for you.

As a person who is studying for the priesthood and observing people in their own faith life I see that a lot of people turn to God in times of trials.
When 9-11 occurred and the recent Virginia Tech shooting happened many mourners turned to God in prayer.
However, to answer your question from a personal aspect, yes, I pray daily. I pray to praise God, to thank God, to pettition God, and to ask for forgivness.

I don`t think prayer is something you have to do on a regular schedule. I believe that the thought of prayer is a prayer in its self. When you tell someone " I`ll pray for you ! " , you just did !
