You see, right now as a Christian, I have the power of "Free Will". Atheists argue that it is beyond moronic to not put teenagers on birth control or at least load them up with condoms because when it comes down to it, they will not be able to stop themselves. In other words - there is no free will, just force of nature. I mean, we all are just really smart monkeys, right?

Here's the problem - it is a proven statistical fact that birth control pills and condoms are not 100% effective, so when I inevitably succomb to the urge to do it like they do on the Discovery Channel, am I then obligated to kill the unborn child?

Just wondering.

beletje: "You can't kill what is unborn"

Really? Thanks. As a Christian looking to become an atheist, I need to learn as much about your religion as possibe, and I didn't know that.

Yes, but you can't go on murderous rampages and kill adults in foreign nations like Christians do.

... You really can't be serious. This is a joke? Right? Right?!?

Atheists say nothing of the sort about birth control, they are free to advocate it or discourage it as they see fit. Being an atheist has nothing to do with what you believe, except that you don't believe in god. That's all it is.

Second, many atheists like to have sex. To force all young adults not to have sex, when it is perfectly safe, is forcing your religious views upon people who don't agree with you. It's religious oppression.

Third, condoms work 98% of the time, and BC pills work about 99%. A woman is only fertile 2 or 3 days of a week, each month. The odds of having a baby when birth control or condoms (or both) are being used, are astronomically low.

There are many other forms of birth control besides pills and condoms... each with their risks and effective rates.

Why would you feel "obligated" to have an abortion? If you wish to succomb to "how they do it" on the Discovery Channel, then you would also be HAVING the baby, which is the "natural" outcome of most pregnancies on the Discovery Channel. I can't recall any "natural" species... ANY species other than the "human species"... who practice birth control OR abortions. They may practice "selective breeding," or even abstinance, but as for using "tools" (ie drugs, condoms, IUDs, sterilization, etc.) no other species does this. They also may experience still births or miscarriages, but, again, I know of no other species who abort (drugs, operations, etc.) a baby intentionally.

So... once again... where is the "obligation"?

I dont know what to say about all that, but why? why would you change your religion just so if you get a girl nocked up you can say "it was nature" or "im athiest" I think that you can have your free will and not practice a religion. I think that you shouldnt really be having sex unless you are well enough settled with the person where a child shouldn't be that big of a trouble. I think that unless you are ready to bring a kid into the world, and only if you catch it when you are early into it then you should have an abortion. You shouldnt feel obligated to do anything, it is your life live it how you want to. Just be smart about it

First of all an atheist is a person who does not believe in God or gods. That is it. Other than that atheists are individual. Some are Republican some are Democrat. Some are conservative and some are liberal. Some are pro-choice and some are pro-life. Some advocate birth control and condoms for teenagers and some advocate abstinence. Simply put atheists do not believe in God and therefor do not follow the teachings of the bible just because they are in the bible but they do not have a common belief system or a common agenda that all atheists follow. In short stop grouping all atheists together.

i dont know if i even want to answer you since your obviously stupid enough to think athiests are obligated to killing babies. so answer me this...why is it that japan...the country with the LEAST amount of crimes is also the MOST athiest country in the world? why is it that your very own neighbors that just might be athiest dont have police constantly driving by thier house just to make sure your athiest neighbors wont commit a horrible crime? why is it that statistics for prisoners in USA show only .2% of athiests are in the USA jail while 75% are christian? why is it that you call athiest pretty much murderers when many athiests were former christians or some other religion? like myself. why is it that i have not yet killed a baby? or had ANY desire to harm anything? EVERYONE is born an athiest...you were born an athiest...theres no such thing as a christian child, buddhist child, catholic child, etc etc. thats like saying my baby is a republican...makes NO SENSE.

and kids SHOULD use birthcontrol such as condoms! FOOL! without teens being aware about these safe sex alternatives...we are going to have more unwanted babies raised by more teen parents...which usually only the girl is burdened with. theyre TEENAGERS! you remember when you were a teen right? can you honestly say you didnt REALLLYYYY want to have sex with someone just because that other person was HOT?? teens are going to have sex whether we like it or not....somehow they will trick parents and do it...that is why we need teens to be aware or birthcontrol. and im not saying teens should have sex early...i dont think they should...but most teens...from middle school thru highschool WILL have sex even though they know the risks...that is why we must prevent them from ruining thier future with an early child using awareness with birthcontrol.

Do you really think that by denying teenagers access to birth control that you can stop them from having sex? Free will isn't the issue here. Neither is religion. Whether or not you believe in free will, there is very real statistical data that shows that teenagers will have sex. Recognizing this, it seems prudent to make available to them those things which will make the sex they have less risky, rather than deny it to them out of the hope that since they are told they shouldn't do it, they won't.

And are you asking whether atheism requires you to kill babies, or unborn children?

people who help legalized abortion comprehend that desperate women human beings could have abortions whether or not they're criminal or not and have faith that the technique ought to be risk-free. some undergo in recommendations the days whilst well being facility wards have been crammed with women human beings attempting to recover from botched abortions, and that they have been the fortunate ones. The others have been in the morgue. If the Lord has a plan for each toddler, why is it that something like a third of all conceptions fail to implant and advance appropriate? Is God the international's best abortionist?

Your wondering has not gone far enough ... Consider ... for one, world over population , we are growing exponentially , right now we are 6 1/2 billion people and growing like interest rate , so to give the right to live to every body born is exemplary and righteous ,I don't argue this , but it worries me where are all this new born- ed babies are going to live , and I am not talking about us Americans , but third world countries where hunger and desperation and death is a daily happening , open your Ayes !!! Sure we can afford more babies here but not around the world . Second point to consider , in our culture Women have the right to chose to keep a baby or terminate it , is their choice not yours or mine , no body have the right to dictate what is right or wrong from a personal point of view , and this comes from a Spiritual .

You know it's funny. I live in Montreal, and it actually provided an excellent defacto experiment for just that. For a long time there was (still is I guess) a separate french/english healthcare system. The french population was mainly catholic and therefore the french hospitals were catholic-based, and therefore refused to do abortions. The english hospitals did do abortions.

You know what happened? 4/5 of the abortions in the english hospitals were good catholic french girls who had gotten pregnant by not using birth control. Which system of ideals really kills more babies...

ALL atheists argue that? I don't... I'm actually a teenager myself who is NOT sex crazed. I don't believe in the generalization that teens can't help themselves. We're not really smart monkeys - we're humans who have adapted/evolved quite immensely in a relatively short time. You can't kill what's unborn.

And why would anything change if you became atheist? For one thing, you already ARE atheist - to every religion's god but your own. The ones of us called atheists just go one god further.
