Not true at all. Many are still being done.
Once upon a time ( a million years ago, when I was young), doctors would take out tonsils for any reason. (Sometimes that reason was that a sibling was having a tonsillectomy.)
Now, there has to be a good reason for doing it. Chronic or recurrent tonsillitis, or obstructive symptoms from tonsillar hypertrophy (big tonsils) are reasons to have them out.
They are also removed as a part of sleep apnea surgery in many patients.

I had my taken out 10 yrs ago, when I was 24. The tonsils are the first part of your immune system. So if you take them out, you could be more susceptable to illness. My doctor would only take them out if a patient had tonsilitis more than 3 times a year. Imagine the tonsils like a kitchen sponge. They filter your body from things that shouldnt be in there. But if your body isn't cleaning the sponge, then it just gets nasty. If you use a dirty kitchen sponge, you're doing more harm than good, infecting every surface you wipe it with. Just the same with tonsils. If they are constantly full of bacteria or virus' it cant kill, then they'll stay infected and keep you sick. That was my case. My tonsils never were smaller than golf ball, on each side. Since I had them removed, I rarely get sick.

The factor is medical professionals must make determination established upon the "necessity" of the method, no longer simply in view that he could make a benefit. Would you prefer a general practitioner to make a determination established upon what's great for you or established upon which method goes to take advantage of cash. I haven't any notion what his remark has to do with medical professionals taking advantage of abortions. Edit..... I trust his declaration for your edit and I nonetheless don't realise what that has to do with medical professionals making gains off of abortions. If my daughter was once raped or confronted with an undesirable being pregnant I might adore it to be a loved ones determination on what must be performed no longer yours or the governments.

It is quite often an unnecessary surgery, when medication could suffice. Also, there is some evidence that the tonsils are part of the immune system, and therefore not worth removing unless it is absolutely necessary.

Because they were being over done. When I was a kid it wasn't un-common for them to take them out as a matter of routine. It was discovered that taking them out led to more problems then it helped. They will take them out if they are bad but would rather leave them alone if possible.
