Know that it doesn't matter why you are breaking up or what you don't like in him. Just tell the truth that you don't want to date him anymore...that is it.
Whatever you do don't tell him you want to still be friends as it will make him think you are not serious about breaking up. Keep in mind that he doesn't want and never did want to be your friend. He doesn't want you to try to let him down easy, in fact he will find that insulting. The only thing that will do is hurt him more.
It's not a big deal and guys just want you to tell him the truth without too many details. Guys don't like details as they don't care about them.

ok tell him y u r breaking up with him say i really have feelings for u and your a nice guy but i just cant handle a relationship right now cuz i dont want to hurt u more than i am now,i just want to be friends now until i get myself together!

I don't think any of us can judge whether or not it is good that you are breaking up with your boyfriend. When you break up with him, just tell him how you feel. Be honest, and don't anger him further with lines like "It's not you, it's me" or "I hope we can still be friends."
