I take Ambien at night but I don't fall asleep until 2am so I am wondering what other sleep medicines. I should try? I tried Remeron and it made me eat in the middle of the night? So I would like some medication suggestions?

Are you taking anything for the depression? If not you probably should be. There is another drug called Rozerem it is for insomnia, you should ask you doctor to let you try it.

Who is prescribing those meds? If it is the family doctor go back and say they are not working. Remeron is a mood elevator and people gain weight on it even if they don't overeat. Ambien has side effects too.

You may strongly think about seeing a Psychiatrist who will give you medications that your family doctor is not familiar with, ones to treat the insomnia and the depression. There are also choices like hypnosis (which really works) and imagnery or biofeedback.

Don't try picking the meds "of choice" because there are contraindications on many and only a qualified physician knows them.

Best thing to do in the mean time is to take the Ambien at the same time EVERY night, like one hour before bed time. Go to bed, no reading, no TV, maybe soft music. AND get up at the same time. Go to bed and get up at the same time every day, seven days a week, to establish a good sleeping pattern.

Hello, just wanted to let you know of a miracle pill that puts you to sleep, available over the counter, is actually very very beneficial for your health, and is only 3 bucks!! I had trouble falling asleep for years. I would lay in bed, and think and think and think for hours before I could fall asleep. It was literally driving me crazy!! I had tried every over the counter sleeping pill on the market and nothing helped. I turned to Nyquil and that did the trick. I had been drinking Nyquil almost every night to go to sleep until I stumbled upon this miracle sanity saving nutritional supplement named MELATONIN. And you can buy it at any GNC health food store. I advocate GNC because the melatonin they use goes through 85 different quality checks before its bottled. Buy the sublingual melatonin. The kind that dissolves underneath your tongue tastes like cherries and it’s good for you!! I was shocked at the effectiveness in putting me to sleep. If you have any questions before you buy it the sales associate at GNC should be able to answer any questions you have. It comes in 1 mg, I take 2 right before bed. The only side effects are weird dreams for the first two nights if any at all. I have been taking it for years and it’s truly been a blessing. And it has more antioxidant effects than Vitamin C and Vitamin E combined. You must take the sublingual kind from GNC otherwise it might not work because of quality and potency, should be taken at regular bedtimes in the evening. Must try the GNC brand at your local mall.
God Bless
P.S. after you try it and it works don’t forget to tell others about it. You could be saving someone else’s Sanity

Sleep aids are not the long term solution. They rapidly loose their effectiveness. I bet the very first sleeping pill you took knocked you out cold and now they don't work anymore. Infact with long term usage people often notice that their sleep actually gets worse. The body becomes rapidly dependent on them. Stopping them can lead to severe insomnia much worse than the origional insomnia and it can take quiet a while to get back into a normal sleeping pattern like months. It can take months to wean off of them. You should read this http://www.benzo.org.uk/manual/
That will explain everything about tranquillisers/sleeping pills (sedative hypnotic drugs). It explains how benzodiazepines and other sedative hypnotic drugs work including ambien.
Also users of sleep medicine also often find that they get next day withdrawal symptoms such as anxiety, panic, depression, muscular problems etc.

have you been to a sleep clinic yet? if not I strongly suggest it. My husband has sleep apnea and a sleep disorder. he rarely gets more than 4 hours sleep a night, the ambien CR helps the most, out of what we have tried so far in sleep meds. Lunesta works well for me.

My best advice, go to a sleep specialist and do the sleep trials and clinic, and see if you can get it worked out by trail and error.

frustrating I know...

Try melatonin, its a natural supplement, I use it every night and it works for me,however it doesn't work for every one. Get outside and get some Sunshine too. Find something that truly interests you and slowly work through your depression. get away from ambien and those others, if not used as directed they may become addictive.

You need to treat the depression first. That in and of itself may very well help the insomnia because sleep difficulty is a symptom of depression.

You could try Trazodone. It is an antidepressant that is sometimes used as a sleeping pill.

Are you also on other antidepressants, sometimes they can cause insomina, and maybe a med change will help.
