You want your computer to be safe and all the information get a virus protection and keep it up to date. McFee and Norton both are good. I have Norton and have for over seven years. You have to renew use yearly but cost is way cheaper than having a virus!

Virus protection is very important. Here are a few recomendations.
Windows Washer
Zone Labs
Net Defence
Oh & another way you can keep your computer healthy in case you get Malware, have a system reinstall disk, that's the only way that I know of to get rid of Malware. It's very nasty stuff. You'll never think about it until you need it, so it's best to have it & not need it than need it & not have it.
Here are a few you need to avoid because they are tied to "AOL" that software kills computers.
Mcaffee
Norton
Below are some websites that you can look at. And if you like some of the ones I don't, it's cool. Just decied for yourself & have a good day. :)

It is extremely important to protect you not only from malacious virus's, but also adware and spyware. I recommend trendmicro's pc-cillin. It is the best one I have found so far. I agree with the other poster, stay away from Norton.

is very important because if you don't use any virus protection you will get virus and it will make a mess with your computer...Slowdown the connection and infect any e-mail that comes in and out...Plus your files..
I use Norton is the best one so far...I won't recommend anything us.
I almost buy another one but I don't trust it...So I end up with Norton always.

People swear by Zone Alarm. I have the free one on my computer, but it expired a few months ago. I am considering the commercial version. Do not get Nortons.

It is very important. You also need to keep it up to date, so it can detect the new threats as they come out.
Failure to do so can have pretty negative computer consequences.
the seriousness depends on how much downloading you do and how many attachments do you open and how regularly?
