I started 2 month ago taking 20 mg of Paxil. I'm now taking 30 mg of Paxil for about 2 weeks now. I still don't feel that much difference and would like to ask the Dr. to up it to 40 mg. Anyone taking 40 mg and can you tell if it's any better than 30 mg? My Dr. wants me to wait 2 more weeks and I'm following her advice but just wondering if someone will chime in on their own personal experience. Thanks.

I'd say give it more time. It takes awhile for the medication levels to build up to the point where they are therapeutic. I took Paxil a few years ago, and if I remember right, the max dose is 40mg. I wouldn't rush it because 30mg might just be the dose you need and 40 could be overmedicating. Just follow your doc's advice. Also, a warning on Paxil, it can cause pretty significant weight gain in some people. I gained about 40 lbs while taking it. Hope this helps.

Two months isn't a very long time. I'd wait it out and follow the doctor's plan.
I was taking Desipramine, which worked for me in 1983-84, but it didn't work for me in 1994. My doctor put me on 20 mg Paxil. I started with 20 mg, it was better but not still not quite right. It was increased to 40 mg, and I was taking Buspar too. Later on, I was taking 30mg for a long time. I went to a different doctor, who put me on 20mg, which I've been on for a couple of months, I'm not sure right now if 20 is enough.
I weigh about 250 pounds and I'm about 6 feet tall, how tall you are and how much you weigh might affect the dosage.

Paxil was difference between night and day for me. I started at 20mg and am still taking 20mg. When I go without it for more than 3 days, I KNOW it.

Once upon a time, I took prozac, and it did nothing for me. I also once took imiprimine and it did nothing for me. But the Paxil has been fabulous.

You might have a good talk with your doc and see if maybe you need a different type of medication. Sometimes meds just don't mix well with a person's chemistry.

I definitely would talk to your doc about your concerns and check with her or him before upping the dose, yourself.

Good luck!

Starting an antidepressant takes time; it's not a miracle pill. It may take 30 or 40 milligrams to see a difference, or it make take another medication; furthermore, if you are not actually suffering from depression, it will do you just as good to eat a Snicker's bar. If you haven't been to a mental health specialist for an evaluation, then you may have been misdiagnosed. It often happens when a person goes to the family doctor for psychological problems.

20mg is the starting dosage and it is increased in 10 mg intervals ot get the desired effect. The minimal time to increase is one week but most physicians increase at 2-4 week intervals. If you go to 40mg you are still within the dosage guidelines. One word of caution though. There is a terrible rebound depression effect if you stop taking suddenly. Keep up with your refills and make sure you don't run out.

i replaced into on Paxil for a lengthy time period, and it replaced into so difficult for me to get off of it, yet finally it in basic terms did not help me anymore. on the instant i'm on Effexor XR and it truly works large. i'd not proceed to exist Paxil, I actually have heard extremely some undesirable outcomes about it.

I take Paxil...I have needed to up my mg as well...yes, it dies take a couple of weeks to fully notice a difference but, if you are not getting any feeling of relief after a week or so, have her up it...or maybe you just need to be on something else all together...good luck to you!!

20 is usually enough, but 30 is not too unreasonable. I have never heard of anyone taking 40. It takes time whatever the dose, and you need other interests, like volunteer work.

I take the 12.5 mg CR (controlled release) and it's wonderful. Ask if that would make a difference

you may need to try a different antidepressant if you have had no improvement. I would not go beyond 40mg. some people don't respond to certain drugs. have you tried zoloft?
