I've heard about various ways, like switching the engine to run on materials other than gas. What are some other options? I'm really curious.(It doesn't have to pertain just to what the car runs on either, just ANYTHING at all involved with the car)

You can get a kit that will convert your diesel to be able to run on vegetable oil. You can keep your tires inflated to get better gas mileage (which saves energy). You can get a kit to convert your car into an electric car; that's what my Ecology Club is doing this summer. You can drive your car less and either carpool or ride a bicycle more.

Keep the car in proper running condition, no leaks or anything.

There really isn't a whole lot you can do. A car that runs on deisel you can run on bio-deisel, or vegitable grease, to eliminate the oil consumption but the exhaust is still just as bad for the enviroment as before.

You can convert the car to electric, but that takes a lot of work. If a lot of people do it, it will be a huge tax on your city's power company. Also electric cars usually have limited range and take a long time to recharge. The other thing about electric cars is the process of making the batteries uses more gasoline than your car does.

....

Absolute best way to make your car more enviromentally friendly: Use it to bring home a couple trees from the store and plant them at your house.

Uhm there's people in the USA that can convert any car to a fully electric car. They swap out the engine, and put in a ton of batteries, then you're set.

It's not 100% green, as that depends on where your power comes from(like from coal or nuclear), but it's cleaner than anything else.

dont use air-con/ heater
dont use radio or gps or CD player
dont speed all the way up and then brake( try running the car slowly when you nearly reached there and let it stop on its own- this saves fuel)
dont over polish your car- some of the car wax may evaporate polluting the environment
dont use leaded petrol
