I think of it like believing the tooth fairy is real and that Santa Claus is real. It make no sense. If there is a great Creator, who created the Creator? Huh? Doesn't make any sense. I admit I have never read the Bible, but I think it is a book of fables and fairy tales from what I've heard. Jesus never even existed. He was an experiment when religions tried to mesh paganism in newly created religions. Jesus is the biggest scam in hisotry. He is a human form of the god Horus, who was born on December 25, was known as the Son of God, died as a savior, and was ressurected in 3 days. A little too close to be coincidental, isn't it? There was no Jesus, God is a lie, and the Bible is a fablebook. There is nothing that can prove otherwise. I will never trust the work of a Bronze Age Historian, because all they did back then is write myths with their whacked beliefs. They even believed in a Snake god back then. They hardly ever wrote nonfiction.

If there is a God, ask yourself:
-Why doesn't he answer prayers?
-Why do children die from cancer?
-Why is there so much evil?
-Why hasn't God shown himself?
-Why isn't there evidence outside of religious books written 2,000 years ago?

"I admit I have never read the Bible...."
And atheists chide Christians for following others blindly?

"Jesus... is a human form of the god Horus."
I'm assuming that you mean that "Jesus, like Horus, was the human form of god...." Otherwise, this sentence makes no sense whatsoever. If so, I'd like to know what your sources are that Horus was born on December 25 (which wouldn't matter anyway, since the idea that Jesus was born on that day comes long after the bible, and the only date I've seen cited for Horus is the 31st of Khoiak, which corresponds with "October/November") or any of the other alleged similarities you claim.

"Why doesn't he answer prayers?"
What makes you think He hasn't?

"Why do children die from cancer?"
Because there is evil in the world due to man's fall.

"Why is there so much evil?"
Same as above. But if there is no God, where does objective (good and) evil come from?

"Why hasn't God shown himself?"
He has, to the Jews and later in the form of Jesus Christ.

"Why isn't there any evidence outside of religious books...?"
How could there be evidence outside of religious books when you claim that's all they wrote?

"They even believed in a Snake god back then."
Just how does this have any relevance to the bible unless the people who wrote the bible believed in a Snake god?

"They hardly ever wrote nonfiction."
Another irrelevance as it (even if it were true) tells nothing about whether they could or did write history when they attempted to do so.

Just to address some factual issues. The early CE's were the Iron age not the Bronze age, and that is a huge difference. Yes there are similarities in Christianity and other religions, but not just Egyptian religions. Christianity is very similar to Mithranism another popular Roman cult. The Roman historians did not actually tell a lot of fairy tales, unless it was about the Roman Empire. During the early period of Christianity the Romans hated the Christian cult and their writings about it discuss the unpatriotic nature of the Christians not to mention they were pacifist's, which the Romans also felt was dangerous.

to the main part of your question, tradition, socialization, and some people believe they had an experience that explains it. The tone of your question is a bit rude, we should be more respectful of others and their opinions/faith.....and maybe than they would do the same for you.

In reply to your addition to your original post...

If there is a God, ask yourself:
-Why doesn't he answer prayers?
*** Whether you think your prayers will be answered or you think they won't, you're probably right. The answers are there, but you'll only find them if you have the ambition to do so. Don’t rely on someone else to answer them for you.

-Why do children die from cancer?
*** Children die from a lot of things. It can be a natural occurrence in this physical world of entropy and imperfection. It’s not because of any right or wrong. It is not a morality or religious issue. It does, however, provide the spirit with an experience (death) that enhances understanding and appreciation of it’s opposite (life).

-Why is there so much evil?
*** Evil is relative and depends on your perspective of the experience. But just like the previous answer, it provides the spirit with an experience (evil) that enhances understanding and appreciation of it’s opposite (good).

-Why hasn't God shown himself?
*** Look around… look beyond what Man has created to obscure your view. . Here’s a hint… DON’T look for a guy in white robes floating in the clouds… look at the clouds, and the trees, and the stars, etc.

-Why isn't there evidence outside of religious books written 2,000 years ago?
*** Those books were written by man as a means of explaining the unexplainable in order to control others by fear… don’t rely on man-made concepts as evidence of the divine… seek it for yourself in all that you can experience. Then when your time here in this physical realm has run its natural course and your spirit has gained the unique experiences of being you, come back again to gain a whole new perspective of experiences. The evidence mounts with each new experience.

Jesus is not one of the mythical characters you mentioned because people saw him with their own eyes and recorded what they saw. And if they recorded all the other events accurately such as who the religious and government leaders were at the time, listed events that are already proven if you take the time to study it out, the regional power at the time and a host of other details which are documented, why on earth would they concoct an unbelievable story such as this? Who would even believe it? Eye witness my friend. Counts a bunch. Now you go on believing what you want. At least your excuse has been removed because you know what is right regardless of whether you believe it or not. I say to you to read history that is from a source other than a website that's agenda is to mislead you. Try giving both sides a chance and let the facts speak for them self. Proof is plenty compared to the amount of documentation that exists on many of the other historical events we have no problem believing.

Wow- sounds like you got it all figured out. Good luck with that. I did see one true statement in your comments- that's the meshing of paganism with religion by the Catholic church on the pagan worship of Bacchus and Saturnalia on Dec 25th the time of the Equinox. Jesus was born approx in April - when you figure when the angels appeared to the Shepard's watching their flocks that night. Where did you get your info from? Since you didn't read the Bible and get your opinions first hand? I think you got it from a man- and you think we are fools to trust in God?!

Hello, SeptemberSun:

Let me recall some history of the Faith: The early disciples saw Jesus after the resurrection, saw the pierce marks in His hands, yet they were still cowering. then God poured upon them the Holy Spirit--they spoke other languages, received visions from heaven, and recalled the minutest details of all the miracles Christ did in their presence.

You notice today that when they torture someone, they confess to everything, some tortured terrorists even confess to blowing up the Murrah Building in OK Cty. But they were caught and interrogated.

The Christian Disciples were tortured and killed--they could not testify of anything other than what they witnessed. Yes, just a pinch of incense to Caesar could have saved their lives, but they chose death rather than deny their Master and Savior.

Take note, but God has given us something to build your faith, a hidden Bible code, sealed "until the end of the days."

By your own admission, you really haven't done much to consider the possiblity that God is real in the first place and that you are relying on "what you've heard". I doubt it would be possible to ever understand something you have already decided is untrue.

Incidentally, I don't think there is much historical debate as to the whether the man named "Jesus" actually existed.

It is important for people not to criticize statements, which require awareness of other facts in order to understand. I once heard that a college professor so "intelligently" (and arrogantly, I am sure) stated her profound insight that "there can be no god, for if there was we would all be free from disease, death and hardship."

There are answers to all such questions, and it is crucial that one seeks the answer rather than use the question as ammunition. To answer your question, God, our Father in Heaven, was created by His own creator, who was His God and Father. After successfully living a mortal life, our Father in Heaven became exalted and began His own work of creation.

ADD: Giving a comment a "thumbs down" doesn't make the truth of the statement go away. You scoff now, but fortunately one day everyone will be able to see "the end from the beginning."

The thing is why are you even asking these questions? You are obviously wondering about god and you knew this question would attract a lot of christians that would give you the answers because you are searching for answers because you are longing for something to believe in which just proves that you need God.

People believe in God so that they have something to comfort them when they feel like nothing else can. Having a huge sky god father figure is soothing, even if he threatens hell to those who do not believe in him.

Personally, I never had any imaginary friends, particularly not malevolent ones, so I'm not entirely sure where they're coming from.
