It's a little of both actually. Let me explain.
Studies show that people of the African American decent are involved in more violent crimes than "whites" are. They have a higher rate of arrests and such statisticly when it comes to crime and violence. This is not entirely their fault, as many of them still do not have as much of an education as they should even when it's available to them. Meaning public schools do not discriminate. Their education habits studies show is affected my housing, which is affected by jobs, etc, etc, etc. Their imagination makes them wary of another race based on what they have seen or had done to them. In a way it's racist, as they classify the other race before they even know the actual person's motives, but when it comes to their security, would you blame them if you were in the same place? It's a tricky question. :)
In short, many things affect why they have a higher % of law offenders. Some of them are just bad, but the same is true for every other race as well. Most "white" people have grown up with "black" people trying to bully them around, I did but I don't hold them all accountable for what a few did. The meanest kids in the schools I was in were all "black" people, this again goes back to all the factors that cause this type of behavior, but the numbers show that there is indeed more of a reason for a "white" person to be afraid of a "black" person then vise versa.
I use the quotes on racial terms because almost all "white" people actually have origins from Europe, and "black" people can usually trace their lines back to some African nation, and thus none of us are called by the nationality we really are. I myself am English/German/American Indian and am thus called "white".(mother was German, father was English/American Indian).

If your premise is that gun owners fear something, then I would say that you are, I'll be nice, very misinformed
But if that is where you are coming from then, why are you focused on white Americans? What do Asian American gun owners fear? What do Latin American gun owners fear? What do African American gun owners fear?
You see your question is silly and illogical unless you are trying to make a bigotted point. Is that what this is all about?

It is an "over-blown" fear fed by sensationalist news stories of incidents like home invasion burglaries more often then not reported to have been perpetrated by people of African American descent. Statistically speaking, people are more likely to be harmed by an accidental discharge of a firearm than they are to be the victim of one of these burglaries but prejudice and fear combine to magnify isolated events in people's minds.

Imagination. Crime in this country does not cross races as much as white people think. We have the term black-on-black crime for a reason.
What i wonder is why the consider it worse when they are a victim of another race than by a white person . I wonder.

Seems like somebody watched Michael Moore's propaganda film of "EUROPE IS EVIL, GUNS ARE BAD, GUNS ARE RACIST AGAINST BLACKS!"
Seriously if you're a european, go spread multiculturilism in your own country and leave ours alone. Its rude.
