The 10 Commandments are not what you think. I think you might want to Know that the only version in the Bible to use the word "Commandment" was in reference to the second set (after Moses broke the first). Remember, Moses went up to the mountain and came back with a set of commandments, Was shocked an enraged at the Isrealites behaviour while he was gone and smashed the tablets. He then went back up and returned with another set. The 10 commandments that u regulary see, are never refered to in the bible as the ones that god wrote on the stone tablets. They were just oral guidlines that God told Moses, and then Moses told the people. The actual commandments written on the stone tablets were as follows:

Exodus 34:10-26
Then the LORD said:
1. I am making a covenant with you. Before all your people I will do wonders never before done in any nation in all the world. The people you live among will see how awesome is the work that I, the LORD, will do for you. Obey what I command you today.
2. I will drive out before you the Amorites, Canaanites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites.
3. Be careful not to make a treaty with those who live in the land where you are going, or they will be a snare among you.
4. Break down their altars, smash their sacred stones and cut down their Asherah poles [That is, symbols of the goddess Asherah].
5. Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.
6. Be careful not to make a treaty with those who live in the land; for when they prostitute themselves to their gods and sacrifice to them, they will invite you and you will eat their sacrifices.
7. And when you choose some of their daughters as wives for your sons and those daughters prostitute themselves to their gods, they will lead your sons to do the same.
8. Do not make cast idols.
9. Celebrate the Feast of Unleavened Bread. For seven days eat bread made without yeast, as I commanded you. Do this at the appointed time in the month of Abib, for in that month you came out of Egypt.
10. The first offspring of every womb belongs to me, including all the firstborn males of your livestock, whether from herd or flock.
11. Redeem the firstborn donkey with a lamb, but if you do not redeem it, break its neck.
12. Redeem all your firstborn sons. No one is to appear before me empty-handed.
13. Six days you shall labor, but on the seventh day you shall rest; even during the plowing season and harvest you must rest.
14. Celebrate the Feast of Weeks with the firstfruits of the wheat harvest, and the Feast of Ingathering at the turn of the year [That is, in the fall].
15. Three times a year all your men are to appear before the Sovereign LORD, the God of Israel.
16. I will drive out nations before you and enlarge your territory, and no one will covet your land when you go up three times each year to appear before the LORD your God.
17. Do not offer the blood of a sacrifice to me along with anything containing yeast, and do not let any of the sacrifice from the Passover Feast remain until morning.
18. Bring the best of the firstfruits of your soil to the house of the LORD your God.
19. Do not cook a young goat in its mother's milk.

It makes me laugh when people say they know thier bibles, and quote scripture like the back of their hand, but quote you the wrong commandments. The only set of guidlines that are refered to as commandments in the bible that were given to Moses are the ones listed above, not the ones you have been taught. Just open your bibles and read it before you go attacking me. Read the entire story, get the context, don't just read the scripture you know.

Robert S. Do your own homework, these are the commandments, the only ones refered to as commandments brought down by Moses from the mountain.

To all you who can't read. Yes I do realize that Moses cut another set of stones, and God wrote commandments on those tablets. These commandments are the ones I have listed above. Try to keep up.

And to the guy that said whatever, thanks for the two points, I would expect no less from someone who probably has never taken the time to read the entire bible, and I have and I am an Athiest.

"And the Lord said to Moses, Cut two tablets of stone like the first ones, and I will write on these tablets the words that were on the first tablets which you broke."--Ex. 34:1

Read this slowly--do you see it? "the words that were on the first tablets..." The SAME commandments!

You amuse me.

Then Jesus confirmed these commandments:

KJ Bible Mark 12: 28-30 "And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all? And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment."

And also:

KJ Bible, Luke 18: 20. "Thou knowest the commandments. Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and mother"

And also:

KJ Bible Mark 12: 31-33 "And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he: And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices."

Uh, you seem to be misunderstanding my intent here. I wasn't laughing at you! I read your post and thought,"Hmm.Ok. This guy knows what he's talking about." I happened to be on the phone at the same time talking to a friend who was making me laugh. lol wasn't meant for you. The "whatever" is simply my way of saying "looks under control". So, thank you for the easy 2 points!!!!!! That's all. Calm down!!
