In the book of Matthew, in chapter 16 verse 4 it says: A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a miraculous sign, but none will be given except the sign of Jonah.
Can someone explain what is the " sign of Jonah?"

For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and now one greater than Jonah is here." (Matthew 12:39-41)

Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the fish. So also, Jesus was in the belly of the earth for three days and three nights.
"But he replied to them, "An evil and adulterous generation craves a sign. Yet no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For just as Jonah was in the stomach of the sea creature for three days and three nights, so the Son of Man will be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights." (Matthew 12:39-40)

As Jonah was in the stomach of the whale for 3 days, So Jesus will descend into the Abyss for three days.
The analogy is referring to Christs death and resurrection.

Wasn't Jonah swallowed by a whale to "escape" God? Maybe the sign is a whale or a fish. Like a Jesus fish???
