Genesis 19:24-26
Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;
And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.
But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
That was twice in three verses.... Jim

Punish: Those that that have said Yes to God;are to Judge themselves,then God will not have to Discpline You--Me;
Wrong choices have consequences.A Rependant Believer
has the Help of Holy Spirit to Help Him make right choices.
Sometimes He--She Makes wrong choice,but is quick to Repent and agree with God"s Word,Gets up and moves on with God;
Punish VS Discipline Punish always looks Back
Discipline looks Fwd.
Unrependant Person is #1 Self Centered
# 2 Opposed to God
# 3 Prone to Sin
Yes God sends Divine Correction,A Person will # 1 Trust in His Strength #2 His ntellect # 3 His Resources Or turn to God . This is same with A Nation. Should a Person try the first three,God will increase the Correction process, Same with a Nation and He uses other Nations ,or in the case of an individual ,another Individual or a Happening.All the while God is saying turn back to Me.That is when Life is worth living. One example King Nebchadnezzer book of Daniel He grazed with the cattle untill He confessed that it is God who does the Promoting.Sampsonis another.N.T Ananias and Sapphira Acts. ch 5 Now I wasn"t there ,but I Believe the Bible My favorite verse Psalm. 17:15 I will be satisfied when I wake with thy Likeness oh Lord.

Acts 5:1-10 Ananias and Sapphira should do nicely for the New Testament.
The Old Testament is full of examples in fact one could argue that the whole of it is God punishhing his people for various types of rebellion.
Adam and Eve, Cain and Able. In fact Genesis chapter 4:13 Cain acknowledges that God is the one punishing him. 13 Cain said to the LORD, "My punishment is more than I can bear. 14 Today you are driving me from the land, and I will be hidden from your presence; I will be a restless wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me."
Leviticus 26:18
" 'If after all this you will not listen to me, I will punish you for your sins seven times over.
I may have missunderstood you on the "can be proved" if you want verification of any event the only example is Israel itself. God told them time and again that if you do not obey me I will remove you from your land. First was Israel and the last was Judah. Any Jew can verify to you this fact and far better cite the sources but it all started with David and continued with Solomon. Both the covenant and the breaking of said covenant.
Hope this helps.

In order to answer this question, we first need to distinguish between punishment and discipline. For believers in Jesus, all our sin – past, present and future – has already been punished on the cross. As Christians, we will never be punished for sin. That was done once for all. “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1). Because of the sacrifice of Christ, God sees only the righteousness of Christ when He looks at us. Our sin has been nailed to the cross with Jesus, and we will never be punished for it.
The sin that remains in our lives, however, does sometimes require God’s discipline. If we continue to act in sinful ways and we do not repent and turn from that sin, God brings His divine discipline to bear upon us. If He did not, He would not be a loving and concerned Father. Just as we discipline our own children for their welfare, so does our heavenly Father lovingly correct His children for their benefit. Hebrews 12:7-13 tells us, "As you endure this divine discipline, remember that God is treating you as his own children. Whoever heard of a child who was never disciplined?

ever hear of Sodom and Gomorrah? there is archeology that proves both cities existed, but were burned, just like the Bible says.
There is also evidence that the great flood did happen, that was God punishing all but 8 people.(the only people on earth that had faith)
And there are many many other examples of where God used His people to destroy communities that worshiped idols.

Hebrews 12 talks about the chastening of the Lord & David talks about it in the psalms. Chasening is to move you upward & forward toward God.
Punishment in the form of condemnation is from the devil.

yes if you believe in God. In Exodus it shows how unhappy he was with Moses because he wasn't listening. Also Noah wasn't a perfect man but he did listen to God and built the ark which saved him yet punished the rest of the world with the great flood....it all makes sense, but only if you believe. if you don't then it sounds like a great story.

Yes! Especially if your His child.
Rev 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
1Co 11:31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.
1Co 11:32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.
Heb 12:5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
Heb 12:6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
Heb 12:7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
Heb 12:8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
Heb 12:9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
Heb 12:10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.
Heb 12:11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
Gal 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
Gal 6:8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
Gal 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
