I admit complete ignorance about the BMW, but I am a 2007 V6 SEL Fusion owner.

The Fusion is very roomy front and back, and has a nice big trunk. It's classed a mid-size, but it's really almost a full size car.

So far I am very impressed with the quality of design and workmanship on the Fusion. I've had mine for a little less than a month and I have found no flaws whatsoever. The fit and finish are excellent. The car has a very good feel to it and is very fun to drive.

Consumer Reports April issue gave the 2007 Fusion their highest ratings on predicted reliability and safety, and gave it a highly recommended rating. And we all know how much Consumer Reports HATES domestic cars.

I think you will probably find the 4 cylinder Fusion to be somewhat underpowered for a mid-size car that is this large. Go with the 3.0 L 6 cylinder, you'll be happier with it.

One thing to note. The EPA ratings for the Fusion are worthless. My real world mileage on the 6 cylinder is about 18.5 mpg for a mix of about 50% expressway and 50% city. Definitely nowhere near the 20 mpg EPA cites for city.
