Not in a bathroom. Store them in a location where the temperature and humidity are constant and kids won't get into them Like in the kitchen cabinet.

I work at a pharmaceutical company where I test the drugs after being stored for lengths of time, to ensure that they are still good up to the expiration date. They are stored at 25 degrees C (room temperature) and 60% humidity, as required by the FDA, although other drugs may need to be refrigerated. The packaging should say what condition to store them at.

The main thing to remember is, don't store them in a bathroom with a shower, because the humidity can alter the drug compounds. Don't store them anywhere that gets very hot, like a windowsill or in your car. And if you have small children around, keep them in a very safe place (like the top shelf of your cabinet) because children can easily OD on medicine, and they can sometimes open child proof caps.

Matthew makes a very good point for medications that should be kept at room temperature. However, there are several medications that must be kept in the refrigerator or away from light. There are even a few medications that should be frozen. This information should be available on the package or package insert. If you cannot find it, simply call your pharmacist.

in a dark, dry, cool place. these conditions will help them have the longest possible shelf life. dark is very important. that is why they come in colored bottles (it keeps the UV light out). I am in pharmacy school by the way.
