An atheist is someone who lacks the belief of or denies the existence of God(s). I personally classify animals as atheists too.
I was wondering why Christians go out of their way to claim God(s) of other religions dont exist if they believe those God(s) do not exist?

Look I am tired and frankly Sam Harris explains it more eloquently anyhow..............
Atheism is not a philosophy; it is not even a view of the world; it is simply a refusal to deny the obvious. Unfortunately, we live in a world in which the obvious is overlooked as a matter of principle. The obvious must be observed and re-observed and argued for. This is a thankless job. It carries with it an aura of petulance and insensitivity. It is, moreover, a job that the atheist does not want.
It is worth noting that no one ever needs to identify himself as a non-astrologer or a non-alchemist. Consequently, we do not have words for people who deny the validity of these pseudo-disciplines. Likewise, atheism is a term that should not even exist. Atheism is nothing more than the noises reasonable people make when in the presence of religious dogma.

An atheist is someone who does not belief in god/gods.
If every other day, some idiotic cult like group comes to you on the street or come knock at your door to tell you .... you have to believe in our god and his son will bring you there. If you do not believe you will go to hell .......
Then these are the group of people who think their book is the knowledge of everything in the world. These are the group who thought atheist is actually believing in their god deep down inside, and thinking we also know it is the truth, but am a defiant child, however, bulls to them.
These are the people who think they know everything because of their book. If atheist remain quiet, they will take it as we agreed with their views and pushing their false waylaid ideas to others claiming "Look no one is against us ..... you are alone, so either your are with us or you are with the devil" (Sounds like some president?)......
Now, do you think we should speak up against it?
(This is a genuine answer, not trying to belittle others)

it is very intresting question to be answered. well atheist doesnt believe in the Existance of God and they go on speaking against is because they have every right to speak and express what they believe as theists have their right to speak out and express their feelings. but in reality the question is if an argument begins between two persons about the existance of sun does not affect its existance so it does not affect the exitance of God. untill the final judgement

Some do, and it's a bit absurd what they come up with, but for the most part, Atheists are speaking against the BELIEF in something they do not believe exists, and the influence that belief may have on their lives and on society.
I'm not an Atheist by any means, but I think I summarized this correctly. If I've mis-stated, please let me know.

I truly hate seeing people defrauded and extorted by religious frauds. Maybe if more people spoke out Jim Jones wouldn't have been able to kill so many people and those like Benny Hinn wouldn't be able to extort so much money.
An atheist is anyone who doesn't believe gods exist.

I don't speak against God, at least I try not to. I tend to find arguments against him and hope people can prove me wrong. I would like to think that there is a God, but logic tells me otherwise. I will continue to ask and argue until I tire of it. Maybe somewhere, someone has what it will take to get me to believe. Then again, maybe not.

It's simple - they're tired of Christians insisting that He does exist. I think some may see Christians as annoying mosquitos. They instinctively swat at them, in much the same way Christians feel the need to swat at Atheists.

People are dying everyday because of religion. Thousands are dying in Africa alone because good christian missionaries discourage the use of condemns and our good ole boy christian lobbyists discourage sex education and harm reduction aid to foreign countries.
This is but one example among many of why religion is so dangerous. Another example: Do some research on how many native americans were decimated through the introduction of smallpox by well-meaning christian missionaries. The current 'christian' ban on stem cell research may will allow thousands of people to die needlessly.
Step out of your box and see how evil religion can truly be.
