If you are coughing up blood you need to go to the doctors, there are some very serious things that it could be an indicator of.
Lung Cancer or tumor.
Polyps on the vocal cords.
A lung abscess.
Severe tonsillitis
Bronchitis
Tuberculosis
Or if you are coughing a lot it might be something as simple as a small burst blood vessel, similar to a nose bleed.
BUT YOU DO NEED TO GET TO THE DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, to rule out more serious conditions. I know I've been there in December. And I have no voice now.

It is impossible to diagnose a medical issue over the web especially when you tell very little about it. You should not be relying on advise obtained from web sites either.
Any internal bleeding can be very serious. Of course it could very well be nothing, but I don't think you want to take that chance.
Go visit an emergency room, especially if you are coughing up good amount of blood.

"Chronic" coughing is the most common cause of "coughing up blood", often caused by a bronchitis. If a person has been coughing hard, and consistently, for days- small blood vessels that line the inside of the "breathing tree" leak/bleed.
The "tree" is known as the trachoebronchial tree.
The vessels do heal, but the blood works its way out of the lungs, until you find yourself "coughing up blood".

Any number of things could be wrong, from a cold that is causing small blood vessels to rupture from the force of the cough to pneumonia, tuberculosis, or some cancers.
If you're seeing a lot of blood, you should see a doctor.
Good luck!

It happened to me a few times. Let me explain. You know how they say that when you have a nosebleed, you should hold your head back? Well, you know what? That is frickin ****. When you hold your head back, all that blood that comes out of your nose flows right back into your head and down into your mouth....which results in you coughing up blood. Another reason would be a rupture in your stomach and you are vomiting blood. But you said coughing..so I would assume it is just blood from the nausea area.

Well...it could be a few things, but without knowing what is going on it's hard to tell. Have you been coughing alot? Violently? You might have broken a capillary and the bleeding is coming from that. I wouldn't get all freaked out about it because it's probably something simple, but it could also mean tuberculosis or lung cancer. I would go to the doctor and have myself checked out.

A few things come to mind - bronchitis, cancer, mucous draining from your nose....coughing up blood is never a good sign. I highly suggest you see a doctor for a chest x-ray to rule out anything suspicious and go from there.

Well you can have a blood clot in your stomach, you can be bleeding inside maybe you were hit to hard or you have been eating something wrong. You may be bleeding internally or a stomach ulcer you should get medical attention immediately.

www.wrongdiagnosis.com gives you a list of diseases for every symptom or group of symptoms you list.
My boyfriend was coughing up blood when he was in the hospital because he had cancer and was on blood thinners.
Go to the EMERGENCY ROOM if you are coughing up a great deal of blood.

All sorts of things and none of them are any good. This is reason enough for a trip to the nearest Emergency Room.
