Even if they're too old to fight on the front, they should be able to serve in other capacities. Or are they just armchair warriors that just give lip service, call liberal cowards while they send our kids to fight because they are the ones who are really afraid? To them I say: Put up or shut up!

I support the troops, but not the war.

Yes, absolutely.

If they really believe in it so much, let's see them step up to the plate.

No, I do not agree that ALL people that support the war should enlist. If you are married with children, or have already served in a previous war, are some of the examples that come to mind as to supporting the war without enlisting. As for sending our troops in harms way, please remember that ours is a volunteer military. They knew that they might have to fight when they signed on. What I object to is liberals like Harry Reid telling the soldiers that they are losing the war and threatening to cut funding unless they are brought home. Then there is Nancy Pelosi giving aid and comfort to the enemy (Syria).and calling it "diplomacy". Now I know that you have exempted yourself from enlisting since you do not support the war. Question: Say the Democrats win everything in 2008 including the presidency.
Democrats like Charlie Rangel are on record as wanting to reinstate the Draft. If the situation in the Middle East worsens or another 9/11 incident happens, would you enlist or not fight the draft if called up? By the way, before you start talking about never being too old to serve, the military may disagree with you.

I completely agree with you. Me and my Army husband were talking about that very thing this morning.

He has served twice in Iraq, and he is soon to go again. He actually tried to get out when his last term ended and the Army basically forced him to stay in.

He realizes the need for a standing Army, but he doesn't support the war. In fact, he is anti-war and anti-government.

We were also saying that military service should be a mandate for all government officials, including all current congress members

*Someone above me on here misunderstood and thought that the askr was saying that even those opposed should serve. That was clearly not what he said. Only those who SUPPORT the war should have to serve.

I am also curious to know how USMC Recon think that we are all on the same side. And has he ever actually been to war. And if he liked it so much he should volunteer to go back ASAP. And in the meantime go volunteer at the local vets hopital. See the mangled bodies of men who fought for our leaders ego, then tell me we are all on the same side.

No moron. Do you support welfare? Fine, they you and all those who do should pay. Do you support fire safety? Fine become a fireman. Do you want to reduce violence? Become a cop. It's a stupid point. Those who can and want to serve do. Who the hell do you think is enlisting and re-upping, you tools?

lord_vel…is an ignorant uninformed typical liberal. Congressmen and women do have people there clueless, take Duncan Hunter for one.

You facist hypocrites need to remove your heads from your a**es -

Where did Bill Hillary and Chealse serve? Was his daughter in the jets dropping bombs on the people then?

Where did Reid serve, Durbin, Biden, all those guys who support the Afghanistan war serve?

So by your "logic" you maggot, you don't support the war in Afghanistan since you're not there, nor in Bosnia, or kosovo

First if you decide to enlist is shouldn't be because you support a war it should be because you will support and defend your country . I enlisted and served because i found that statement true I never wanted to go to war but i was prepared if the interest and security of my country was at stake I had nothing against the USSR and how they conducted there business but if they interfered in the well being of the US then it would have been my business and I would have went to war if you do not like the policies and how the US conducts ts affairs then the time to voice that opinion is at election time not when you are called to server .remember being a citizen is just as important as being a serviceman

You are just trying to inflame. Pitiful.
First off, you can't make me or anyone that doesn't agree with you shut up. I have a voice just as MUCH as you do.

Second, the military is 100% volunteer and you, again, can't MAKE anyone join just because you think they should. Heck, I think Nancy Pelosi should go over there. She thinks she is an Armchair General. But I don't get to see that happen any more than you getting to decide for anyone. You only have a say in your own destiny, no one else's. And just as a side note, I AM a Veteran and have served my country and my spouse is presently deployed.

Thirdly, You obviously have NO idea how the military works, do you? If you did, you would know that the maximum age limit for joining the military isn't set by you or me. And on top of that, not everyone is physically able. I read somewhere that only 15% of Americans are even fit to join the military.

Why don't you try doing something constructive instead of just trying to goad people that don't agree with you into an argument.

No, I have to fundamentally disagree. There are millions of Americans who oppose the war as well. Ought they all to put up or shut up? What about those who first supported the war and now are against it? It is a silly proposition.

I would say, however, that there is certainly a moral component to your question, as well as the issue of conservative hypocrisy. It's true, I think there is some minimum of commitment to one's beliefs. In a democracy, however, that means voting. As someone on the left, I am constantly amazed to see the political apathy of those who say they hate the war (to say nothing of Bush). Yet they don't vote and many aren't even registered.

If people want to go further, more power to them. But a willingness to support those individual who represent your beliefs is most simply and clearly done through the democratic process...

I had 7 children and 5 served contained in the protection stress. I actually have had family contributors in each warfare because the Revolution and that i do trust that each and each one must be required to serve a minimum of two years formerly they're eligible for school. the protection stress matures the too youthful to carry close the position or what they favor to be. it truly is an section that teaches self-discipline and self nicely worth. it truly is not any extra risky than driving a vehicle. I actually have all my 7 alive even as I actually have friends which have lost theirs to injuries, ailment, drugs and drink. the 5 of mine that joined the different 2 married protection stress, received practise, pastime practise and are all useful and straightforward human beings. they paintings, have households, and are not a drain on society. as i write this I actually have 2 grand children serving one a marine in Afghanistan and one a sailor contained in the sea someplace possibly the Med. sea. yet having stated that i do no longer help libya. i help the troops and could welcome them domicile because they're following orders, yet i do no longer help the un or the different flag and do not sense we favor a third the front to strive against as we talk. thinking the we've grew to change into our decrease back and are permitting Israel to conceal the fourth the front via itself. and that i'm no longer a jew.

Alot of the guys saying we should be in Iraq, have done their time in one way or the other. It would be awesome if they can go visit Iraq and see all of the progress already done. They all go off of what they are told by the senior military leaders over there. If they actually went out there and patrolled with us for a week they will see the good work and how good the Iraqi army can fend for themselves

Silly little person, with a silly little question.

I have served and would again if they would let me, have been on combat related disability since 1969, I can still shoot with the best of them, but it is hard to take cover in a wheelchair. I guess I could be the token target but think I will pass on that job.

So the question is what about you? It always seems to be the cowards calling others cowards. Have you served our country in the military or are seeking a position in the Vanguard of the Elite.

Freedom for those who have fought for it
has a special flavor the protected will never know

One of the most horrible features of war is that all the war-propaganda, all the screaming and lies and hatred, comes invariably from people who are not fighting... The people who wrote pamphlets against us and vilified us in the newspapers all remained safe at home.......

This is a way to shelf an argument and squash a valid point.

On that line of thinking, both those that are for the war and against the war should enlist since, in that philosophical view, no one should have an argument at all unless they are willing to be put on the line.

Fortunately for us, we Americans have a different view of political influence. In our Republic, citizens have the right to have an opinion without censorship. In a Militaristic government structure, like Germany had, only those who are in the Military can have a political view (or one of influence).

What many Americans came to learn from Germany, is that a Militaristic system tends to not work and cause death and destruction of the innocent.

By the way, this is one of the foundations for extreme thinking.

This is also an elitist type argument that needs to be worded properly.

"You are not allowed to have an opinion about ______ unless you either agree with me or you are willing to ______."
