You just choose a Bible verse or verses and discuss it. You fellowship and pray. Maybe have snacks. Sometimes you just get to know each other and share concerns.

Usually a Bible study is a small group of Christians (5-15 is best) gathered together to research a particular topic or book of the Bible in depth by studying scriptures and discussing what they have learned amongst each other openly.

There are two kinds of "Bible Study". In the more common one, a passage of scripture is prepared for believers to contemplate in a way that harmonizes it with what they have already been taught to believe. In the other one, people examine the linguistic history, cultural background, author's intent, known literary devices, and references to similar passages to determine the possibilities of what the passage might really mean. I prefer the second, even though it means more work.

Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

The Bible studies that I go to we start off singing praise songs and then the leader of the study starts off by reading the first part of the passage that we are studying and then there is open discussion about it.
