"I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:

That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else.

I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, AND CREATE EVIL [emphasis added]: I the LORD do all these things."

(Isaiah 45:5-7)

Christians: If God isn't responsible, how do you interpret these scriptures?

God always gets the credit for the good and never the blame for the bad. In times of disaster God is unaccountable, irresponsible and unavailable. He's in the shower, out of the office, on vacation, not able to come to the phone right now.

An earthquake hits and 10,000 die and every survivor gives praise to God for their deliverance and no one curses God for the dead. For the survivor, "I'm alive, it's a miracle." But for the dead, "They're with the Lord now."

"The Lord" has done exactly what would have happened if there was no Lord at all, i.e. nothing. If our coworkers were as useless we'd marvel that they hadn't been fired for sleeping on the job, but the great invisible, all-powerful and yet un-noticeable Great Yahweh must be praised and we'll lovingly torture and burn anyone who says otherwise.

The only attempt to falsify evolution that would almost persuade me is that 53% of the US population still swallows this fraud. I have to remind myself that the church was hanging and burning empiricists less than a couple hundred years ago and evolution takes several hundred generations to be apparent. Otherwise I'd start training the cockroaches for their role as inheritors of the earth.

First let me say that their are 15,000 students at that particular university, 4,000 in the dorm, and 11,000 who reside off campus. Virginia Tech yesterday had a Press conference on Fox News, and one of the Authorities (there were 3), and I don't know his title said that they do have a security system, through email, and other technical means. However the time that the incidents occurred, was in the A.M. when the students were commuting. When they did arrive they felt that it was best to lock down when they did arrive. Truthfully at the time of the news conference they were still doing the investigation of the witnesses, and they did not have all the answers yet. That said, I believe they should have metal detectors as they do at the airports, and I.D. cards (ones that can not be counterfeited), as they are planning to do with Passports in the United States. Secondly when an incident does occur they should have a loud siren like they do in Israel, and other countries during war time alerting people to go into their shelters. That wll alert the ones who are commuting. For the ones that dorm they should have a PA system installed. These are the only measures that I can think of, aside from strickter gun control laws. Truth to tell, it is unfortunate but whatever measures are installed it seems that when a deranged person, or a terrotist is determined to harm people unfortunately they always find a way to work around any security system that is installed. It is like a no win situation, but we have to do what we have to do no matter what. G-d should help those families, to be able to overcome the tragedy of losing a chlld.

There is a huge difference between a tsunami (natural disaster) and the shootings at Virginia tech and the attack on Sept. 11. God had a hand in the tsunamis and even other earthquakes, tornadoes, etc. but man himself had a huge hand in what happened on Sept.11, 2001, the shootings at Virginia Tech, the shootings at Columbine, etc. These were works of satan. God would never be so cruel to do these things.

What translation are you using? My NIV says that God brings disaster, not evil. My NCV says that God brings trouble. I do not know of any Bible that says God creates evil.

"Far be it form God to do evil, from the Almighty to do wrong. He repays a man for what he has done, he brings upon him what is conduct deserves." Job 34:10-11

"You are not a God who takes pleasure in evil; with you the wicked cannot dwell." Psalm 5:4

"Your eyes are too pure to look on evil; you cannot tolerate wrong." Habakkuk 1:13

"When tempted, no one should say, 'God is tempting me.' For God cannot be tempted by evil, not does he tempt anyone." James 1:13

well he did create evil,he created Satan, and Satan is in charge of this world. 1john 5:19 =We know we originate with God, but the whole world is lying in the [power of the] wicked one.I like this scripture bc alot of people think the power of what goes on is in god's hands but that isn't true...for the time being.revelation 12:12=12 On this account be glad, YOU heavens and YOU who reside in them! Woe for the earth and for the sea, because the Devil has come down to YOU, having great anger, knowing he has a short period of time.”So Satan has short period of time to deceive people and make them immoral.

In this scripture, God is just saying that he controls everything that goes on in the world. In the scripture the word darkness does not refer to evil, but to day and night. He can't control other people's actions.

The scriptures is like watching old TV. It's out of context and doesn't fit with the modern world.

God is never responsible for such violence or negativity. This is Man's alone!

Never take scripture out of context. "By evil god cannot be tried" If you read about him you find he is not as the religious leaders preach. He is the creator of all the things we see. the beauty and simetry and perfection of it all. It is man lead astray by his own teachings and selfishness and lust for money, position and power that leads to all the bad around us. there is a bigger picture that includes a trial on a heavenly level over right of rulership involving an angel that wanted to be god over man and so slandered the creator and lied to people about him. That is how he got the name Satan and Devil. Those words mean liar and slanderer. He has a time period to prove that he can mislead people and he dose so by causing them to blame God for the evil they suffer. READ YOUR BIBLE. You will enjoy what you read.

God's responsibility? Well, He created everything and the man, so one could say He's responsible for all good and bad. But was these tragedies caused by His divine will ?? Surely not. It's respectively man's and nature's

Pulling random scripture taking them out of context is old hat. You can take scripture rip it up splice it with another and get whatever results you need. Only by reading them in context and studing the whole word can you get what God is speaking of.
