Always, always read the fine print ... ALL the fine print ... whenever you are making a purchase, a service contract, or anything else in this world.

The bottom line is, software is expensive, especially the name brand industry standards that everyone wants. If computer companies put the full software on the computers, they would cost a lot more. Some computers, such as Dell, offer some complete programs, but only for additional costs.

As another answerer mentioned, the computer companies and software companies join together, and most computers come packed with trial software. Usually it is not fully installed, but rather available for install, and it's fairly easy to remove if you don't install the trials. It's not difficult to remove the trials, but they leave trash in your registry.

Most of the popular software have freeware counterparts, so if you need word processing programs, photo editing programs, or anything else, look around for free programs you can use.

The reason they do this is because the PC manufactures make a deal with the software manufactures and in return the software manufactures get to advertise there software on your computer and this creates more customers for them.

It's called junkware or crapware. They pay the manufacturer to put it on there hoping to rope you in. It really slows down your computer even if you're not using it. That's why I hate Dell, Gateway, and HP/Compaq. Their stuff comes loaded with it and they make it pretty hard to upgrade your computer down the road.
