I can't decide which car I should drive after I get my learner's permit. I'm thinking of a fourth generation Volkswagen Jetta or a fourth generation Volkswagen Golf

I am assuming that you're a teenager with learner's permit and all, so get a Golf. Even if you get the two door golf, you'll still have plenty of room for friends and driving around town, just like in the Jetta. When you go to college you'll be able to fit everything in one load (plus a passenger). I'm a hatchback fan because you can fit so much in them, even odd shaped items. With a Jetta (or trunk) it's more difficult because the object might be too high for the trunk lid to close but too wide to fit in the backseat (aka TV in a box) and the trunk to backseat pass-through is just a pain (which I don't know if that Jetta even has a pass-through or how large it is).
Hatchbacks are also a hella lot of cuter and a blast to drive (I encourage you to learn how to drive a stick).
Plus I'm pretty sure the golf gets better gas mileage than the jetta - definitely a factor for the poor teenager/college student budget!

Golf and Jetta are technically the same except for the notchback.
I'll go for the Golf but that's because Jetta has never been a car for younger people over here because of the trunk, but in the US I see them everywhere so I guess they are cheaper on the second-hand car market.

Get a Golf. I got my Jetta 4 years ago and I've always thought about how it could have been if I got the Golf, much like how it would have been had I married another girl. I just bought a 4 door Rabbit for my wife 3 weeks ago and I don't have to think about my "how it could have been" puzzle anymore. I love the Rabbit. Get the Golf. It'll suit you better.

Get the Golf. It is an amazing car and you’ll never blend in with the other “hatchbacks”. The Golf is the only hatchback to own. The Jetta is just another car with a trunk.
Jetta owners dream about getting a Golf. Golf owners dream about driving.
Oh! Get the fastest Golf you can buy! And if you don’t get it with stick shift… don’t bother.

Go with the Golf, my wife has had 3 of them. They are excellent.
The Jetta is the same thing with a larger trunk, but you pay a lot for that trunk. Plus the trunk in the Golf is plenty large enough for us and the back seats fold down to enlarge the trunk.

get a getta! its a golf with a jetta front end conversion...lol oh and if your going to get a regular golf..get an r32..those cars are amazing! if you end up getting the jetta get a gli. also try to get a mk3-4 of both of these, never go with a first year of any released car.

i think jetta. persronally i like the bug..but since you are a guy....i would do the jetta. it is sleek and stylish. as long as its black or silver ( i would go with black) if you are gay then go with brigher reds and yellows greens and blues! lol.
