what would you do if your boyfriend used to cut himself, smoke pot, was abused, and tried to kill himself... he doesnt anymore i made him promise not to do any of these things and he has kept it. he treats me right, shares with me his feelings, he loves me and i love him. but i am positive that if i broke up with him he would cut himself again. i feel unhappy and trapped. there is also this guy who likes me and as much as i truly hate myself for it i may have some feelings for him too... i dont know what to do and i dont want to hurt anyone (including myself).. what would you do if you were in this situation? please dont say its your decision, because i want to know what you would do. it would help me
thank you

um.. you take care of you.. period.. he has serious issues perhaps manic depression who needs meds. you cannot save him and make ur self miserable it wont work. it will drag u down. you failed to mention if he used to do these things and not now u should be happy but ur not.. u feel trapped. be glad ur not having his baby?you need to help ur self to love yourself #1 and say ti him ur not happy and tell him a reason.. why.. if ur scared of him tell him and ya want to get him to counseling and u will go with him if that is the reason ur not happy .. tell him ur not ready to get serious as u feel trapped and tell him ur feelings. but by all means save yourself as u cant save him.

Self-injury/cutting
Introduction

For people who can't fathom deliberately hurting themselves, self-injury may seem shocking and frightening. But for people who do injure themselves by cutting or other means, self-injury offers a momentary sense of calm and a release of tension. Unfortunately, that's usually quickly followed by guilt and shame and the return of other painful emotions. And with self-injury comes the very real possibility of inflicting serious and even fatal injuries.

Self-injury isn't a specific disease or condition. Rather, it's a type of abnormal behavior. It may accompany a variety of mental disorders, such as depression and borderline personality disorder. Because self-injury is often done on impulse, it's sometimes considered an impulse-control behavior problem. Self-injury is also known as self-harm, self-injurious behavior and self-mutilation.

if your not happy with him then move on, you cant hold his hand or stay with him because your afraid he might go back to self harming. sounds like he has alot of troubles on his plate and he needs to come to terms that if he can't deal with it himself then he needs to seek help. your not to blame for liking someone else, just remember hat the guy your with now will need an explanation so be honest to him and yourself.Ive done most of the things you've described that he has done but came through it on my own without help, i just hope he is as strong minded as me. take care i know this doesn't really help much. i hope it all works out.xx

Yikes If he is cutting himself and thinking of killing himself than you should definitely get him or get a shrink (no offense) to help.
