For the last month i just haven't been able to sleep at night. I normally just lie there at night, and get extremely bored, and when i go to do something like play a game or read a book i feel instantly tired, so i like back down and i just cant doze off! During the day i feel quite faint and dizzy and get strong headaches around 4 o'clock, i try not to have a nap but sometimes it gets all too much n i nap for about 20minutes about 4.30ish. Does anyone know whats wrong with me? I've never had anything like this before!

You are either not physically tired, or mentally tired. You need sleep as the body renews itself when you sleep. However in order to get sleep, you need to tire the body and the brain. Reading will tire the brain but then as you say you lay back down and cannot doze off, so are you physically tired?
When this imbalance happens, your body need to take a nap, to close down because it has missed the sleep from the previous night.
Go out jogging, swimming, tap dancer, do something physical and then see what happens.

hmm I have a similar problem, only mine comes and goes.. I find that I am tired but I can't fall asleep, perhaps your brain is telling your body that you need to sleep but in reality you are not tired at all.. anyways when I have this, it is usually because I am not getting enough physical activity during the day, work out for an hour before bed, should help :) also try to avoid eating before bedtime as you get a rush of energy.

Melatonin is good for insomnia. It is naturally produced in the body, but you can get it in a pill. It is not addictive or harmful like other sleep aids. I take 2-3 of them several times a week for similar issues. Does not make you buzzed or loopy, just sleepy. Look in the vitamin/herbal section of any store. They are pretty cheap.

Exercise more. Don't eat after 7 pm. Reduce stress. Don't nap you're just making it harder to sleep at night. Layoff the caffenated drinks. If these don't help, visit your doctor.

I finally went to my doc for the same reasons you described. He prescribed me a non-narcotic sleep aid. It helped. I am not saying you need a sleep aid, but sometimes people need a little help now and again.
