Maybe you're reading too much into this and it's simply a fashion statement. I do those kinds of things all the time. It may also be an attempt to cover a round stomach!

I've never heard of any reason that is mystical or religious, but that doesn't mean there isn't one.
In my opinion, it is just what a person wants to wear.

It is something that Arab women do to cover themselves up. It's called a hijab. It goes around the head.neck or waist.Arab men will not allow women to walk around not properly covered up.
