My daughter who is seven was just diagnosed last year and I see a huge difference in her behavior at home and at school. It did take us trying a few different medications to find the right one. I also take her to a child psycologist so that she can understand what is going on with herself and so that I can understand. Her psycologist said that alot of children with this have a hard time understanding why they do the things that they do and that they truly don't know why thet do these things and they really want to do the right things, but they are just not understanding. I could go on and on......But bottom line is...yes, the child should try the medication along with a child psycologist so they understand. If you have anymore questions feel free to send me a message :)

And you are right being scared to give it to him, don't! Have you ever read the "undesired effects" of those drugs? Do you listen to the news?

What's ADD first of all? Something invented by the drug industry to make money with a drug for it.

In the past we didn't have "ADD", we had some naughty kids and kids with problems in school at some point or an other, and we all grew up fine.
He is young, full of energy, full of misunderstood words and subjects from school, the media, life, he is confused, is protesting probably from a long time also for things happening at home and he doesn't know what to do, so he does "stupid things"... and you missed the point a while ago probably, right?

Do you remember how you were at his age? This is the most difficult part of the life of anyone. He needs guide and a safe environment, not drugs! So:

1) Some good tutoring would probably help with the grades and his behaviour would improve as well.
2) Check his diet and make sure he gets enough sleep. Get him off sugar as much as possible, sodas, caffeine, and junk food. Take him to a good nutritionist, not a psych!
3) Enroll him to a gym or a sport club, get help from your church, other good kids' parents, send him to summer camp, listen to him, talk to him instead of yelling, do anything but don't put him on drugs!!!
4) Watch who he is going with, who does he look at as an opinion leader? Are you letting him watch trash TV and violent movies or games?

Put order around yourself and him first, create a calm, safe environment for you, your family and your kid. That's your responsibility. And you know better as a mother, inside you, that drugs are not the answer.

You can still make it, don't fail your kid. Go to:
http://www.volunteerministers.org
and search for a local Volunteer Minister to help you out with this. They know what to do.

Strattera works great. Just make sure that he starts out at the lowest dosage. Doctors will just go by prescribing info most of the time and patients will have more side effects if started out at a high dosage.

Strattera takes a couple of weeks to get used to. Don't give up on it. It is much better for him to take than the amphetamine type medicines.

Jacket is over the magnificent because it tries to complicated. denims are good as are the shoes. Hooded sweatshirts are lame, they make human beings appear as if a Buddhist Monk. Get the mop on your head cut back.
