instructions that work on this subject. I know how to butcher chickens,t urkeys etc but have never done a snapping turtle. My husband brought one home so tomorrow we are going to try and butcher it.

Only did it once and never again. That said, Cut off the head & get the Hacksaw to cut apart the bottom of the shell. Cut where the top & bottom meet between the front and back legs on both sides. You will need a couple of VERY sharp knives and a good set of pliers. Getting it skinned is the hard part. You can figure out the rest. Lots of luck, to much trouble for not enough meat for me.

Cut off its head and discard it.

Cut around the shell like opening a letter. The shell should come off fairly easily.

Butcher it just like anything else. Guts out - meat stays.
