I've always thought that the 1500, 2500 and 3500 is payload capacity also. I have a 2006 2500 with a payload of up to 2075 lbs. Don't really understand how that fits in with the 1/2, 3/4 and 1 ton idea. So I guess this is an answer with a question???

It has nothing to do with horsepower. These are model numbers only. Yes a 1500 or f150 is a half ton etc. But a half ton doen't mean it will haul half a ton. That is truck specific based on the options of the truck. I own a f150 with the 7700gvw package and it has a payload cap of 2900lbs, whick is over a ton. Oh ya it has 260 horsepower, not 150...

it extremely is greater for older automobiles pre-1999 A 1500 can appropriately carry a one thousand pounds in the mattress. Tow approximately 7500 pounds. 2500 can appropriately carry over 1500. Tow approximately 10000 pounds. New automobiles 1500 can appropriately carry over one thousand pounds, and tow as much as 10000 pounds. 2500 can carry very almost 2000 pounds, and tow as much as 15000. I actually have a 2007 GMC primary cab short mattress, and that i exploit it for artwork and my very own initiatives. I even have purely felt over loaded two times, and that i probily had approximately 1500 pounds in my mattress. yet as quickly as I had a seventy seven truck I want it became the 2500 via fact it feels lots safer whilst loaded up. often becouse the brakes have been a sturdy length even for at the instant.

1500 is a half ton, 2500 is a 3/4 ton, and 3500 is a one ton. It has to do with the suspension, frame strength, and how much weight it can haul. it has nothing to do with power
