Let her cry for a couple of nights and she will stop. You are reinforcing the crying by letting her sleep with you. If you can't stand to let her cry, go in and comfort her but don't get in the bed or let her get out of bed. I think that makes it much harder and makes the process take much longer though. The quickest results will come if you don't go in at all. I like the idea about a stuffed animal- also a special night light and a CD player with lullaby's does wonders for both comfort and the constant noise will keep little noises from waking her if she is a light sleeper.

She might be having night terrors.
Night Terrors Symptoms: Sudden awakening from sleep, persistent fear or terror that occurs at night, screaming, sweating, confusion, rapid heart rate, inability to explain what happened, usually no recall of "bad dreams" or nightmares, may have a vague sense of frightening images. Many people see spiders, snakes, animals or people in the room, are unable to fully awake, difficult to comfort, with no memory of the event on awakening the next day.
I would do some web searches about it and maybe talk to a doctor. It is a sleep disorder, not just "nightmares." Good luck.

well, she could be having nightmares, she could be under emotional stress maybe an anxiety problem maybe she gets frightened buy the dark, or buy being separated from you. she's five though and i really wouldn't worry about it. give it time, but if she misses you and she knows crying will get you to come in shes not going to stop.. make sure shes surrounded buy soft things that comfort her and tell her if she needs to come and see you your just down the hall.
when i was kid i got really sick and every time i woke up dureing the night i got sick and didnt get very much sleep so what my parents did was they got me a set of soft music tapes and played them so i wouldnt wake up dureing the night and it worked.. and i got the sleep i needed so you could try that to.

She may be having a "recurring nightmare"- that she doesn't remember when she wakes up. Just continue to be there for her when she needs the comforting- & see if the condition doesn't improve after awhile. If it DOESN'T -your little girl may need to see a Sleep Specialist.

Why don't you ask her? Could be nightmares, could be noises...could be anything.
