I'm 12, 106 pounds and 5'' 3''. Today my friend called me "big". Is she right? Am I over weight? At lunch we were talking about body figures and my friend called me medium, then my other friend called me big! I just looked at my BMI on a website and it said 17.8 which means under weight. So, is she right? Am I big (fat)?

No, my friends are not fat either. They're a little skinnier than me, but they are shorter too.

Don't listen to your friend. People come in all sizes and shapes. You may come from a family that has a larger bones so of course your body would be larger than some of the other kids. There is nothing bad about having big bones, and its not something we can change. You are not overweight. Your "friend " was being mean and that is her problem , not yours. You are too smart to buy into her attempts to make you feel bad about yourself. Be proud of who you are. You are perfect just the way you are.

For someone your age you are on the low part of a healthy weight. The only way I can think of that you would be fat is if you had a high percentage of body fat or a very bad diet (which at your weight and height probably would not make a big difference in how you look to others). I hope that helps.

You are a a healthy weight, so don't worry about it. However, just the way your body is shaped is totally different. You can weight 50 pounds and look like you weight 100. Plus, you're still growing, so it will take you a few years or so to grow into your body. You may look "big" now, but just wait until you start to fill out.

No you are not, and your BMI is what you should go by. If you are "under weight" then you should consider putting on weight. Your friends might mean that you have a "medium" body structure, which doesn't mean you are fat. It may mean that you have hips, breasts or aren't stick thin. Or, your friends may be secretly jealous and that is their way of making themselves feel better. Either way, it's about how you feel that matters, not anybody else's opinion. It's important to remember that, because as you get older it's going to get harder.

You are not large. Your Body Mass Index proves it. But eating healthy is a lifestyle you should become accustomed to. At 12 years old your body is not near done growing so make sure to get sufficient calcium. Also, those "friends" of yours are not true friends. They are putting you down and passing negative energy. Consider changing your "friends." And who cares what other people think. Are they going to do your homework for you and help you pass your classes? Who and what gives them the right to be criticizing people? Gosh I'm getting so mad here. Just keep your head up, stay healthy and positive. Cheers mate!

Well of course not... you dont have very good friends, and they arnt very smart either. Your not over weight and you arnt really under weight either... ur just about where you need to be.. so ur probably healthy. If they're as tall as you and weigh less they need to eat more cuz thats gross.

You are definately within range. Most people would die to have a BMI of 17 or 18. Despite what anyone else tells you, you weight is not unhealthy.

Listen, if you think you're fat - you're wrong. I think your friend probably said that because maybe you look tall in front of your class! Don't compare yourself to other girls who are half the size of you or not even the same shape as you!
