It is never ok. Even if they are a parent should behave like a mature adult and not some uncontrolled child. Hearing a parent call you that can be devastating. There are way better ways to handle situations than to lose control and say hurtful devastating things to a child. Parents are supposed to protect their children not harm them.

all the kind and gentle responders have either no kids or kids under the age of 10. I thought it wasn't even that bad. Being the mom of two wonderful daughters- one is 19, one 20. I know that they have been "thoughtless Pigs" on more than one occasion. Only- I am not famous...so my mis-steps don't get me on "The View"

Maybe he should have just called her a mindless porker. What is wrong with all of you? Do you not understand the phrase "that if the shoe fits then wear it". If the phrase does fit you then ignore the statement! In this case the problem was that he should have had more common sense than to have left a recording! Why is everyone in this country becoming so sensitive . Life is not a bed of roses and you will get your toes stepped upon and your feelings hurt from time to time!! Learn to get over it and move on with your life you fragile minded fools!

Never - self respect is so important and calling your daughter a "thoughtless little pig" is very inappropriate. Oh and it takes one to know one. God Bless.

It is never appropriate to call a child a thoughtless little pig, no matter how badly they act. Words hurt, no matter how they were ment. Words can scar a person for life. As a parent, it is your responsibility to protect your child from the hatred of the world, not inflict it on your child.

It's not appropriate to call names and it's not appropriate for a teen to defy their parent either. It's also not healthy for a parent or society to encourage a child to defy their parent by placing her on the exempt-from-personal-responsibility list in public. Minus the nasty name calling I'm questioning why nobody is realizing this parent was obviously dealing with a child that was out of control of herself way before this tape was released. Selective hearing is usually only used where drama is welcome.

no that's horrible, regardless of a child's behavior a parent should never call them names, punishment yes, a little bit of shouting now and again yes, but resorting to insults is just wrong. every child messes up sometimes, every child will do something wrong, it is never OK to hurt a child's self esteem like that.

my mother used to call me names all of the time, i was a good kid, never hung out on street corners, always covered up, never drank or smoked, never swore, never even dated because i was scared of her mainly, i had no life, and when i moved out i got a big shock, it has taken me a while to get used to the world where I'm not all of those things my mother called me, but I'm glad to say i no longer have contact with her. if you call your kid names they will say the same thing one day. name calling has a HUGE affect, i was so shy that i couldn't even go to the shops, do not do this to your child.

Never because it doesn't stop there. If it's ok to call them a pig, then it's ok to call them a whore ***** cun* or what ever. Words do hurt children coming from thier parents. "If my dad/mom doesn't like me, then why should anybody else?"
