Okay before I begin I am a Caholic who believes in evolution, as it is by far the best theory we got, but i went to wikipedia and looked up creationationism and saw that there were a few types.
Young Earth creationism is the belief that the Earth was created by God within the last ten thousand years, literally as described in Genesis, within the approximate timeframe of biblical genealogies (detailed for example in the Ussher chronology). It rejects not only radiometric and isochron dating of the age of the Earth, arguing that they are based on debatable assumptions, but also approaches such as ice core dating and dendrochronology. Instead, it interprets the geologic record largely as a result of a global flood.
This seems highly absurd and i assumed it was only radical Christian sects who believed this, but i found out 47 percent of Americans believed this. Almost half of America supposedly believes in this garbage.
Don't hate me

I am not 100 percent sure on evolution but it is the best SCIENTIFIC theory we have at the moment. Also evolution is a very complex process taking many many small steps, I believe that there is too much room for error, to make an unguided evolution theory plausible

Half of America is blow average intelligence. I'm betting there's a strong correlation.

Read the article in the source area and then tell me it is radical.
Here is a sample.
POPULATION STATISTICS
One of the strongest arguments for a young Earth comes from the field of population kinetics. Without going into full detail here in the short space available, the argument from population statistics may be stated as follows. Using the formula
Pn = 2/(C-1) (Cn-x+1) (Cx - 1)
it is possible to compute the world population (Pn = world population after n generations; n = number of generations; x = life span in terms of generations; 2C = number of children per family). If evolutionary figures were entered into this formula, with man having lived on the Earth only one million years (some evolutionists suggest that man, in one form or another, has been on the Earth 2-3 million years), there would be an Earth population of 1 x 105000! That number is a 1 followed by 5,000 zeroes. But the Universe (at an estimated size of 20 billion light years in diameter) would hold only 1 x 10100 people. Using creationist figures, however, the current world population would be approximately 4.34 billion people. Evolutionary figures thus would imply an Earth population 104900 times greater than would fit into the entire Universe! The question is—which of the two figures is almost exactly on target, and which could not possibly be correct? [NOTE: This discussion is highly abbreviated. For additional documentation, see: Lammerts, 1971, pp. 198-205; Wysong, 1976, pp. 168-169; Morris and Morris, 1996, pp. 317-320.]

Naw, surely not half ... that's what happens when you go to wikipedia, you get whatever the last person to edit it thinks up.
I'm sure some do believe it ... for myself, I believe the timeline provided that says the earth is only 8000 (or 6000, whatever) years old is wrong, and right. They've counted back to the point where Adam and Eve left the garden, but in no way take into consideration how long Adam and Eve were actually in the garden. Could have been millions of years.

Whats seem best u just happens to be false.Blunder based on asumptions.Ask the people who discovered big bang that where did all the matter that composed big bang came from. They will be speechless probably.Evolution explains about one big bang but u know something who knows they might be many big bangs and if live can be created that easily with an asteriod hitting earth why isnt live everwhere.Since a particular asteriod hit earth we formed like this.So when another asteriod hits another planet some kind of life must form right.Life means something in motion on its own.Doesnt mean it have to have hands, legs just like us.i know my science. My dad writes papers to nasa before he died. And i tell u what science is big fluke.I once read in some space website that laws need to be looked into and some thing einsteins law is not valid anymore.Evolution is based on assumption remove the assumption there is no evolution.
But not GOD .GOD is real more real than u and me.GOD created the whole universe at the sound of his voice. If he create it he can destroy it and re created it.All in a less than a blink of an eye.Thats how powerful GOD is.Its good u apperciate what GOD created but u are his love and he wants u.All the creation means nothing to him without u.
But GOD did created them for a cause to declare his glory.
GOD loves u so much that he sent his son JESUS to die for u to reconcile u back.
John 3:16 says "For GOD so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whoso ever believeth in him shall not perish but have everlasting life".Ask JESUS to come into your heart and forgive ur sins and cleanse ur past with his blood.
With a simple prayer like above u can be saved and u will surely know the answer in heaven if not earth. Then u can seek GOD for an answer .

I don't hate you friend in Christ. Although I have a question about how "Almost half of America supposedly believes in this garbage." is conducive to the love Christ calls us to have for one another. It comes across as at the very least a very disrespectful statement.
I am presuming when the term America is used it is describing what is more correctly meant to be the United State of America, not the continent of America.
Having stated that, let me assure you that I am not one to toss out the baby with the bathwater, but in the matter of expertise, I choose to believe that God is the ultimate authority on the matter of how everything came into being. Everything else is human speculation. I simply rely on what I have come to believe is His truthful word on the matter.
He said "let there be" and it came into being.
Simple, straightforward, uncompromising description of the power of God.

Wikipidea is edited by anybody who wants, and is not necessarily an a authority on anything.
I have a hard time with almost half the population believing bible stories. Creationism is such nonsense/non-science, it just allows people to hang on to their vary challenged faith.

Well, you have to remember that America has one the highest crime rates among developed nations in the world and that it has the highest rate of belief in god. Yet, Americans still say it is lack of belief in god that causes all of our problems. Yes, I'm definitely proud to be an American. Oh wait, the opposite of that. For the record, I'm an atheist.

mantazma, don't even bother reading most of these responses... not all Americans aren't that stupid... most of us have enough brain matter and common sense to know that young earth creationism is... not true. and i believe it's 47% that believe in any kind of creationism all together, not just the 6000 year old earthers...

how can you believe the bible and evolution at the same time. Unless you throw out genesis completely.
If you believe that god caused it and it still happened as in genesis please take a look at the site below. .because they don't go together.
Two pieces of a different puzzle
