i am sorry about your loss.i lost my own dad in 1985.a good scripture is the 23rd psalm the lord is my shepherd;i shall not want.he maketh me to lie down in green pastures;he leadeth me beside the still waters.he restoreth my soul;he leadeth me in the path of righteousness for his names sake.yea,though i walk through the valley of the shadow of death,i will fear no evil;for thou art with me;thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies;thou anointest my head with oil;my cup runneth over.surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life;and i will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. amen.bless you and your family,you are not alone.

You do not state to what church you belong....if you are of the Catholic faith and/or your bible has the book called Wisdom, use this reading:

Wisdom 4:7-14; 3:1-9

7 But the just man, though he die early, shall be at rest.
8
For the age that is honorable comes not with the passing of time, nor can it be measured in terms of years.
9
Rather, understanding is the hoary crown for men, and an unsullied life, the attainment of old age.
10
2 He who pleased God was loved; he who lived among sinners was transported--
11
Snatched away, lest wickedness pervert his mind or deceit beguile his soul;
12
For the witchery of paltry things obscures what is right and the whirl of desire transforms the innocent mind.
13
Having become perfect in a short while, he reached the fullness of a long career;
14
for his soul was pleasing to the LORD, therefore he sped him out of the midst of wickedness. But the people saw and did not understand, nor did they take this into account.

1
But the souls of the just are in the hand of God, and no torment shall touch them.
2
They seemed, in the view of the foolish, to be dead; and their passing away was thought an affliction
3
and their going forth from us, utter destruction. But they are in peace.
4
For if before men, indeed, they be punished, yet is their hope full of immortality;
5
Chastised a little, they shall be greatly blessed, because God tried them and found them worthy of himself.
6
2 As gold in the furnace, he proved them, and as sacrificial offerings he took them to himself.
7
3 In the time of their visitation they shall shine, and shall dart about as sparks through stubble;
8
They shall judge nations and rule over peoples, and the LORD shall be their King forever.
9
Those who trust in him shall understand truth, and the faithful shall abide with him in love: Because grace and mercy are with his holy ones, and his care is with the elect".

Dear mom of 4,

Can I suggest Psalm 73 or Revelation 21 or 22? I hope that you will be comforted by the Lord.

A whole lot of funerals read the 23rd psalm. I just went to one recently and they read it.
You can also write a poem to read. At the funeral i just went to someone brought a child's story book about Heaven and read it. Everyone cried and they loved it.

John 5:28, 29: “Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice [the voice of Jesus] and come out.”

Alma 40:23
The soul shall be restored to the body and the body to the soul; yea, and every limb and joint shall be restored to its body; yea, even a lhair of the head shall not be lost; but all things shall be restored to their proper and perfect frame.
The entire 40th chapter of Alma in the Book of Mormon is a great dissertation on death and resurrection.
Please get a copy and read it. I think you will like what you see.

Job 7:9
As the cloud is consumed and vanishes away, so he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more.

there is a good one about man going the way of his dung a few chapters later. that should be good for laughs.

The one thats comes from your heart. No one wants to hear scripture.

Your own thoughts are more meaningful.
