You can find many non-profit organizations through your local volunteer center. They are your local resource that can connect you with many local non-profit agencies:

At http://www.volunteermatch.org/directory/ you can enter your zip code and a distance range, and get a list of the nonprofits in that area, at least that have registered with volunteermatch. Most of them probably have; I found over 1100 within 20 miles of me.

Other searchable databases for finding (& hooking up with) nonprofits:
* http://www.networkforgood.org/
* http://www.idealist.org/
* http://goodworksfirst.org/
* http://www.guidestar.org/ is invaluable in checking out individual nonprofits, with information about their mission, programs, and finances.
