Male cats often kill kittens so they can mate again. She should separate the male cat from the mother and kittens. >^..^<

Fact is male cats do kill kittens, usually if they are not their own offspring, and in order to make the female cat receptive again. It is nature's law of only the fittest mate and procreate.

First off - your friend needs to separate mom and kittens from the male, perhaps in a closed off bathroom or other separate room. This is better for the kittens and the mom - it gives her a stressfree environment to nurse the kittens properly. While momma-cat should be allowed to come out and roam for a bit off and on, the male should be kept away from the kittens for at least two months - and should be supervised closely when he is around the kittens. If they are going to live in the same house with him, it is okay to introduce them slowly when they are at least 6-8 weeks old.

And your friend really needs to get the cats fixed, PLEASE, both male and female, and the kittens too when they are old enough.

There are too many cats and kittens - shelters kill thousands every month especially during spring and summer because there are just too many and not enough homes for them.

Besides that, it is much healthier for the cats to be fixed, it reduces the chances of cancer and other serious illnesses.

Good luck with the babies.

I know this will sound cruel, but I have been told for years that a male cat can smell newborn kittens for miles and that in a lot of cases he will kill the male kittens to protect his mating territory. I hope this is not the case with your friends cat.

My outside cat just had kittens 3 weeks ago and we have had tom cats come around and she runs them off every time they come near.

A male cat will kill the babies sometimes. She needs to keep him away until they are much bigger.
