I've read today that Pamuk is chosen as one of 100 people that influence the world. I just can't imagine how HE of all writers can influence the world. The only explanation is, somebody is giving him a boosting push.
So, why not? Give it a try. But don't complain later, if your conscience doesn't let you sleep at night.
