Sin is not equal.

A lie is a sin.

But it's not as big a sin as murder.

A person who takes bread from a bakery because they are starving has a lot less sin on their hands than oh say Winona Rider who claims she stole things to get ready for a film role.

A married person who commits adultery has less sin on their hands that a priest who breaks his vow of celibacy.

A person who accidentally runs over a dog has a lot less sin on their hands that that fellow who reached into some poor ladies car and through that adorable Bichon out into oncoming traffic years ago.

BUT - no one should be pointing fingers. No one should get up in arms about someone else's sin. Their sin is NONE of our business. Unless, of course, it involves us. Then it is our sin too.

One of the things I noticed about the late '80's is that when greed was labeled "good" that the church in general didn't raise as much fuss over it as they did other types (especially sexual) of sin. Last time I checked, though, it hadn't been removed from the list of seven deadly sins. There is no sin, however, that isn't broken by someone and pointing out someone's sins to that person risks alienating them. Alienate enough "believers" and your church might suffer a drastic drop in members (and this criticism is as true of more "liberal" churches as it is of "conservative" churches). However, this runs contrary to what should be the primary mission of the church: to preach the truth and call others to repentance regardless of the consequences.

I thought the saying is:
"All sins are equal in the eyes of GOD."

Humans see sins in degrees of offense to the general populace.
That's how "white lies" came to be common knowledge. Lying about your wife or husbands weight is survival - not sinning. Killing your husband or wife is a sin.
Hitting a NFL linesman in the face is very different than hitting a 16 month old baby in the face, except in the eyes of GOD.
Swearing at a nun is different than swearing to your shipmate at sea, underwater on patrol.

That's a social thing. My pastor missionaried in a village where all the women were topless(jungle). Then in a village in China where all the women were covered up to the high neck but had a slit in their skirt exposing all their leg. Then ,in India the top and bottom was covered but the middle was open. He'd serve in a church in the south and the parking lot would be covered with cigarrette butts and in the north it was a 'sin' to drink a coke.
I loved that story by him.He was a great guy who passed on a few years back.

All sin is blackness to God. Let's get that straight right from the beginning.

I believe you are probably speaking of homosexuality; it is one of the few sins that people will not only flaunt, but demand you treat it as "okay", and not a sin. We simply can't do that.

You don't really see gamblers and drunks and cheaters parading down the street proclaiming how proud they are of their sin.

If you are going to parade your sin, expect to be told it's wrong by the Christian community.

I'll take this in two parts.
First, God cannot look upon sin with the least degree of allowance. We have to clean every whit in order to enter His Kingdom. That means complete repentance of our sins and bad habits; anything that would make us unworthy to be in His presence.
Second, the concept one bad deed is worse than another comes from the amount of damage we do and the ability to restore or put thing right again. In other words, if we steal something, we can put it back and make amends. If we kill, we cannot make it right again. Likewise, if we take a persons chastity from them, we cannot restore it. We can tell a lie and apologize and set the record straight, but sometimes a tarnished reputation has permanent ramifications.
That concept has carried over into our grading the seriousness of various sins. In truth, we need to overcome all of those imperfections in order for God to welcome us back into His presence for no unclean thing can dwell in His presence. Christ paid the price for our sins, but that is still hinged to our repentance and acceptance of His payment.

In Deuteronomy 28 there is a whole section on BLESSINGS AND CURSES. God said IF you do this, THEN I'll do this, BUT if you don't, then all these CURSES shall come upon you.
"and said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the Lord that healeth thee." Exodus 15:26

(It is important to note that the curses do not come from God. They come from Satan)
"Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth He any man." James 1:13

On the cursing side is all manner of disease (Deut.28:15-68)
There are conditions to healing. The condition is obedience to God.

Sin causes Disease.

"A curse, without a cause, does not come."
As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless does not come. Proverbs 26:2

All sins lead to death. Still, even the Bible selects some sins as "special." For example, blasphamy agains the Holy Spirit is the only unforgiveable sin; and, homosexuality is an abomination before God. Despite the end result - death and seperation from God - there does seem to be some that God treats differently.
