Because they believe they are defending their homeland and families from oppressors. Now if they all decided to wage a conventional war and meet us on a battlefield to fight Army to Army we would wipe them out and they know it. Suicide bombings are a way of evening the odds by taking our superior weapons and technology out of the fight.
War is horrid but people have always and will continue to use tactics that get the objective done.
