I have 2 dates for prom and I didn't mean for this to happen. I get really nervous and shy around guys. So this certain guy didn't know this bit of information and decided to ask me to prom in front of friends in a crowded hallway. I didn't really tell him yes, I told him I'd call him. But I think I should call it off in person. What should I say to him that would tactfully call off the date? I know that it takes a lot of courage for guys to ask girls out, so what should I tell him???

No easy wasy to do this. Yes, calling the extra date off in person would be much better, regardless of what anyone else says. Using the phone for something like that doesn't help the fact you're shy around guys, it only prolongs you're inability to deal with us dudes face to face. So use this opportunity as a hardcore crash test in co-ed interaction. What to say might be more difficult being as it's prom, and he is already thinking you said yes because you said you'd call him. But I think you should tell him the truth, in that you over planned and you're sorry. The best thing to say is always the truth, no matter what the consequence. And you're right, it does take alot of courage for most normal guys to ask a girl out on a date, especially to the prom. In you're case, with you being shy, it would take you just as much courage to tell him the truth. Let me know how it goes! ^_^

Be direct. Be honest. Tell him that you are flattered, but that you've got another date to prom. Don't make excuses, or he'll think that if he somehow deals with the excuse, you'll say yes. Be very direct and say, "I don't think I can go to prom with you." Do it politely, but be firm and direct.

In this case, just simply let the guy know, you're going to have to be honest with him, but also let him know, (and if this is the case)that you still like him and hope you guys go out, this way he'll know you're sincere and it was a honest mistake etc...you know what I mean? Come up with things you can do like in another weekend or whater....=)

The best way is always be honest! He may be disappointed but not as much as when he finds out you lied. Just be firm and honest and tell the person your sorry but you can't.

tell one of them that you nather not go with them because you don't want a realationship between you already to break . . . "our friendship" (your friend ship with the guy)
