I see a ton of under 25 atheists that are die-hard super liberals, so why is that? Is there a reason that atheists are so predictable and cliche with their political views? Why does being an atheist automatically mean a person is an anti-war pacifist, socialist, pro-choice, etc. Can't an atheist be part of the GOP too? Can't an atheist also be pro-life for personal or moral reasons? If so, can someone name an example of a famous current member of the GOP that is an atheist? or do all conservative atheists just call themselves libertarians and vote GOP?

I am an atheist (most of the time, I'm occasionally agnostic) but a very proud conservative! I often just say I'm a typical conservative minus the religion. I don't like any religions, I find them oppressive and controlling of people.

I am more pro-life than pro-choice and think abortion should only happen under certain occasions like if the girl is under 16 or there is a danger to the life of either party or in the case of incest or rape.

I am a supporter of conservatism, I hate commies, socialists, I would vote GOP if I was American, I don't hold hands and sing "Kumbaya", I support the war on terror totally, I'm against gay marriage & adoption (but think civil unions should be allowed), not because its a "sin" but because it breaks our traditions and makes a joke out of marriage... and a child needs a mother & a father, as seen in nature!

I don't hate Christians who are conservative but I don't like the way they rely on the bible for saying what is right and what is wrong. I don't like the way they say 'this is wrong because the bible said so'. I think a sign of a good person is one who can see what is right and what's wrong through their own eyes and with their own mind.

I think we are a very small minority but it is really cool to know that there is at least one other person like me out there! Thanks for posting!

I really don't know why. Maybe because it's considered counter-culture or rebellious and so is atheism. I think you will find most are liberal but not all. I for example, am a Pro-Life, Pro Death Penalty, Libertarian Atheist who has voted Republican my entire life (when I didn't vote Libertarian). I'm for drug legalization and legalization of prostitution. I'm for zero taxes. I'm not a pacifist. In fact, I'm for going into EVERY country run by murderous regimes (money permitting).

I think it's more likely that we are socially liberal than that we are fiscally liberal.

some liberals are atheists, some are Jews, some are Christians, some are Buddhists, etc. the instantly ahead denominator for liberalism appears taking a intense, skeptical mind-set to all issues. they don't take issues at face fee, and do not reflexively or proper away trust each thing they examine or hear, such as non secular texts. that's that entire wondering for your self element. This genuinely what separates Reform Judaism from Orthodox Judaism. Orthodox Jews trust the Torah is the written word of God, organic and easy, the way some fundamentalist Christians trust the King James Bible (even with the actual undeniable actuality that that's in English, and replaced into hence for sure translated a minimum of once) is the literal word of God. Reform Jews belive the Torah is divinely inspired, yet that the Torah contains allusions and metaphors that favor to be theory about, interpreted, made correct to the man. somewhat a tangent, yet i'm attempting as an example a element. no longer all liberals are atheists, yet their mind-set to faith would nicely be somewhat different from conservatives, who have a tendency to be somewhat extra dogmatic, rigid and literal. Are all atheists liberals? i'm positive no longer one hundred%, yet i will't imagine of any atheists i recognize who're politically conservative, oh, with the exception of a few Air stress Academy graduates. What is going on at that position? Who stated as Jesus a Liberal? Oh my goodness, no, Jesus hated liberals - that rabbi replaced into an intensive, extra of a Che Guevara or an Abbie Hoffman than a bill Clinton. Liberals are too institution - the "enable's replace it from the interior" mind-set. Jesus replaced into extra of a "burn, toddler, burn" kinda guy. He did not favor to modify the winning social order - he wanted to tear it down and start up over with something extra effectual, starting up with all Romans outta Palestine.

I think most people are conservative about some things and liberal about other things. Just because most atheists aren't cookie cutter sheep like a great deal of Conservatives are baaaaa gay marriage is bad baaaaa abortion is murder baaaaa.

I know HBO did a poll in 2000 with 10000 registered voters. I forget the % but it was in the 90's of Conservatives that voted Republican cause their parents were Republican.

Probably because the GOP has consistently supported Conservative Christians. I disagree with the Democrats on many of their social programs; however, I will not support a group which consistently supports the agenda of a religious group bent on getting their religion made the forefront of American policy.

You could say the same thing about Christians who tend to lean right because of their views. Christians think homosexuality and abortion is wrong and Republicans feel the same way. Some Atheists don't care if a person is gay or thinks they should have the same rights (they don't believe in the bible to tell them it's wrong) and they think that women have the right to chose. So I definitely think that it's because the liberals have the same ideals as Atheists for this country.

What do you call the Elmer Gantry's of the Religious Right? You know those ones that preach like angels but get caught sleeping with young men and ladies and snorting the white powder favored by the bored righteous of the Republican Party and the many Babiest Preachers.
I call them Republicans of the present era of corruption and meanness! I call them fools. I call them liars. And let us not forget Chicken Hawks, even though they seem to be proud of it! But Rove never did have any conscience!

I vote for whatever party wants to do most to help Third World countries. This planet is much bigger than my own small country. I honestly don't care if that party would be socialist, liberal, conservative or whatever.

It only takes a lousy 8 billion euros to provide the entire planet with clean drinking water. As soon as we have that done, maybe politicians would have the right to worry about trivial matters like abortion or euthanasia or whatever.

I'm a confirmed atheist and I hold very strong humanist moral principals. I would certainly not call myself a liberal in the laissez-faire context which you imply! I just get totally peeded off with religious people trying to make me conform to their often twisted values and stuff their irrational dogma down my throat. Make your own moral choices and don't be brainwashed !

ok for the record, im an atheist, i am not "PRO" war, but i do feel it is nessisary in some cases. i am pro guns, i belive that a women has the right to choose and i don't look at them bad either way they choose. just because i don't belive in god does not make me liberial. and why do we use that word to decribe thoes people anyway. just because they don't see eye to eye with you. not everyone out there is the same. be the master of your own universe. enjoy.
