cream cheese is my favorite for strictly "icing"
My mother makes a strawberry cake and uses a mixture of vanilla pudding and cool whip as the frosting which is fabulous. Gives it a lil more strawberry shortcake taste.

Cream Cheese frosting with drained macerated strawberries(put strawberries and sugar in a bowl in the fridge for about 2 hours until sugar turns to juice) mix frosting and drained strawberries. refrigerate leftover cake because of strawberries.

Coolwhip and some fruit. (strawberries, cherries..) I'm not too fond of actual frosting on a strawberry cake. Who said cake needs frosting? ^^ I mean, if you really want frosting, vanilla would probably be best.
I, on the other hand, stick with coolwhip <3

Whipped cream. Just do it like normal whipped cream and spread on your cake.
