I was put on Trazadone for sleep. it works really well, I just wonder why it took my doctor so long to prescribe this one as opposed to all of the other ones I was put on. My doc said this one is not addictive and it will help with the anxiety as well. Is this true? Also, are there any bad side effects, such as...... weight gain or ANYTHING else anybody else has experienced? I am also on Lamactal for Bipolar. Is anyone else on this combo and how has it been working for you? Any feedback is welcome. Especially with the Trazadone. I'm already pretty familiar with the Lamactal. Thanks!! :)

Trazadone is not known to cause weight gain. It is not usually a side effect of that medication. It is traditionally used to help people sleep and it can assist with some anxiety as well, as it is a type of sedative. It does not have a physically addictive side to it, although you can become mentally addicted to it, as you may think you can no longer sleep without it. but alas, it doesn't have any physical addiction. You might want to talk to your doctor about using it PRN (as needed) rather than nightly depending on your sleeping habits.
the combination of medications, trazadone and lamictal, is often prescribed at the clinic i work for and the hospital. Lamictal is being used more often and trazadone has been used for a long time.

The only side effect I have had with Trazadone was a slightly dryer mouth. No weight gain, nothing. It does help with anxiety too.

I was never on it.
but at the hospital I was at,
this my room mate was.
And she complained of
weight gain, and it really
could've been from the meds.
But I'm not sure.
