How about the erosion of basic human rights from our constitution. The preacher and I use that term loosely who holds up signs at soldiers funerals saying God hates America because of Gays. The blame game politicians play with each other. The lack of taking responsibility for ones own actions associated with watching our leaders. The fact that some portion of Islam would like to see us dead. The fact that we don't act any better. Like any life unless freely given is worth something to the greater good. The resistance of the far right to forgive and promote reconciliation with the middle east countries who have grievances and scarier yet their saying it is OK biblically. It goes on and on. But the promotion of religious fascism is really scary didn't we just liberate the women in Afghanistan? This is particularly scary as I am a woman. When the rights of minorities are all the way stripped you know they will really start on us.

Watching my 7-week old son struggle to breathe during an undiagnosed asthma attack was the most frightening thing I have ever encountered.
Next up would be getting a call from the hospital telling me that my 17 year-old son had been in a car accident.
My 10 year-old son having a pen stuck in his eye was horrifying. All I could see was blood, I was certain the eye would be lost. It was not.
There are many more such tales, but in a nutshell, I would have to say that motherhood is by far the most rewarding-yet terrifying-thing that a person can live through.

The scariest thing I can think of, and I have had some scary moments, is having the most dangerous man in the world be the President of the USA.

I went to a friends home one evening, and found him in the midst of working a 'spell'. I had heard that this couple were into witchcraft, but hadn't really believed it. As I headed for the room he was in, I distinctly felt the air get colder, and something reached out and caressed my face, like a lover would. Something I couldn't see. Or touch back. The hair stood up on the back of my neck, and I got the heck out of dodge.. Never never never went back, either. Whatever demon that man had called up touched me that day, I firmly believe that. Too weird for me!

The Tornado that took out Franklin Kansas, It was about a mile wide on the ground and it missed my house by about a half mile!
Some people call the big ones Gods finger but watching that go by might have made me think of God but only for protection!

i watched a man commit suicide by jumping in front of a train\when i was a child\ my mother tried to cover my eyes
running to downtown manhattan on 9/11 from my school on 23rd street and watching as the roads ahead of me became whiter and whiter and transform into what I can only describe as a hell, and a woman bleeding profusely from her head on the ground screaming about her husband and nobody knew what to say to her.
Watching the reaction to september 11th by president Bush and everything he has done to make my generation one of fear and terror, rather than one of unity and peace after such a tragedy.
My personal realization of the truth of our nature, and the horrible inevitability of everything weighing down my every step.
I ask for hope, and I ask for peace, that is all and I think a humble wish.
