I really thinks he breaking that barrier and reaching out to people because he doesn't focus on the rights and wrongs but focusing on believing and having faith. I think his quote of being a Victor not a Victim is the best and so true!!

Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

That is BIBLE!

I don't know enough about him to pass judgment on whether he is a 'Man of God' or not. I wouldn't go so far as to say anyone is a 'Great Man of God' because I think then it is starting to put the 'Great' on the person rather than on God. God is Great... He uses man as a way to reach other men, but that does not make the man himself great.. in my eyes.

I do agree that it is very important to stress believing and having faith, because you can do all the 'right' things in the world.. but if you don't believe in God and have faith .. then you haven't got the 'whole picture'. However, I do think it's also good to be sure to discuss rights and wrongs.. but it sounds like from what you're saying.. Joel Osteen possibly does, but FOCUSES more on believing and having faith.

I don't know the exact quote, but what you say there about being a victor and not a victim.. definitely does sound like something that makes a lot of sense. Of course, I would want to hear it all in context before I said whether how he means it is good or not.. but.. the idea.. definitely sounds like a good thing..

I LOVE that verse! It's been one of my favorite since around the time I was Saved!

I do not get an opportunity to see him often as we only get a broadcast occasionally but I have studied his "ministry".

I would not call him a Christian minister but he is more like a motivational speaker, more secular but with Christian overtones. There is very little of what I have seen him teach that is Biblical. Part of this could be because he lacks Christian theological training.

To put it simply, if one calls him a Christian minister then he is a false teacher and one of the worst of the worst. But, as a secular motivational speaker for those seeking worldly wealth he is one of the best. What he teaches certainly won't attain riches in heaven.

I can only tell you the truth, brother. Joel Osteen is a false teacher, who has been raised up by a congregation of people whose ears itch for a "Bible message" that doesn't condemn their sins; instead, all they want to hear are affirming messages that tell them they're good people. THIS IS NOT THE TRUE GOSPEL!

Jesus, Paul and Peter all warned us that such teachers would spring up in the last days (which I do hope you realize we're in now). These false teachers and false prophets will be motivated by greed and pride; they will lead MANY Christians astray and will be responsible for many more to never find the truth. Here are only a few Scriptural passages that I'd like you to consider:

1) The entirety of 2 Peter 2 speaks about false teachers and the "destructive heresies" they bring into churches. Please read it, then read this example of a heresy from Osteens' best-selling book:

"You may be weary and tired, worn down, and ready to give up. You may be saying, "I'm never going to break this addiction. I've had it for so long. I wouldn't even know how to function with out it." Or, "My income is so low, and my debts are so high; I don't see how my financial situation will ever get better." Or, "I've been praying for years, but it doesn't look as though my children want to serve God." "I've had about as much as I can take." Don't allow yourself to wave the white flag of surrender. You must get out of that defeated mentality and start thinking and believing positively. Your attitude should be: I'm coming out of this thing! I may have been sick for a long time, but I know this sickness didn't come to stay. It came to pass. I may have struggled with this addiction for years, but I know my day of deliverance is coming." (p. 191)

Clearly, when addressing the issue of addictions, Osteen speaks of sin. Having an addiction is a serious lack of self-control. Those who do not have self-control do not have the Spirit of God (Galatians 5:22-23), and are therefore not in Christ (Romans 8:9). They do not need to think positively. They need to REPENT and turn to the Lord (Isaiah 55:6-7). Joel's "start thinking and believing positively" is the wisdom of the world (1 Corinthians 3:19-20; Colossians 2:8-10).

2) Did you know Joel Osteen has no formal training as a Pastor? He never attended a seminary and is not ordained to preach by ANY denomination. This is the source of most of his false teaching. What did Paul have to say about this?

2 Timothy 4:1 I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: 2 PREACH THE WORD! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, REBUKE, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. >>>3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 AND THEY WILL TURN THEIR EARS AWAY FROM THE TRUTH, AND BE TURNED ASIDE TO FABLES. << 5 But you be watchful in all things, ENDURE AFFLICTIONS, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

Ask yourself: does Paul's description of a TRUE Pastor fit Joel Osteen? Of course not. Please, do a simple web search and read the opinions of discerning Christians who've written about him. There is no shame admitting you've gone astray; but if you do nothing, you will slowly drift into apostacy.

did you spot him on larry king? he reported 'i do no longer understand' 40 5 situations. this is as quickly as a minute! the guy has approximately as lots backbone as a jellyfish. he has no opinion or stance on something. what a wimp. in factor of actuality that joel osteen isn't a guy of God yet fairly a prosperity preacher employing his prestige as a international in call for pastor to get super greenbacks for himself and his spouse. yet how frequently do you hear him speaking relating to the message of Christ and redemption? his form of preaching is what i like to call 'cotton candy' theology- all candy flavor yet no actual substance.

please, let us not fool ourselves that all Christians will be prosperous on earth. Jesus Himself said,

Jesus said, "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." - Jn. 16:33

why would he bless the persecuted, the oppressed, the poor (in the beatitudes) if all we are supposed to experience is happiness and joy? where will you be when all the "happiness" & "prosperity" is gone... are you still with God? Job is a good example of a Christian who underwent the most tragic of poverty. if your basis of Christianity is its promise of prosperity, you're missing our on the core and essence of it. God's promise of richness is not of this earth, but of heaven.

and lastly, Jesus Himself talked about the repercussions of sin, eternal damnation, hypocrisy and false Christians. why can we not talk about it, we know that the best show of love is open rebuke.

IF WE ONLY TELL HALF OF THE TRUTH, DOES IT REMAIN AS TRUTH, OR DOES IT BECOME A LIE?

i'm not a Christian(i DON'T believe) and i don't care what people believe but how they live their beliefs. Joel Osteen is okay by me. (for now). sort of a very positive secular Christianity that will get you alot farther in this life and the next than self righteous fundamentalism of any religion.

He is likable and positive which is good for building large churches. Ive never heard him preach the basics like, The cross, the blood of Jesus, sin, heaven and hell, so I wouldnt think he is a great man of God.

I've only seen some of his sermons...but he does worry me. I worry that he is dumbing down God's message. I'm also worried that he's setting people up for disappointment when actual trials come into our lives. My hope is that he is a true man of God, because if he's not, he's leading thousands astray.
